Comment 21 Get those entries in!

he ACR News Awards are once again open for entries and I have been bowled over by the speed with which some people have already supplied entries.

A year ago I was informed by a number of people in the industry that nothing ever really changes. Certainly the core processes don’t.

The industry is, however having to respond to developments that are not wholly within its control. For example, the government’s green agenda has pushed manufacturers to find energy savings and efficiencies within their product ranges and F-Gas Regulations have helped pushed the evolution of refrigerants as a whole, but especially ‘natural’ refrigerants. So now that the recession appears to be easing, if not over, new products are being launched on to the market with increasing rapidity.

Green agendas and sustainable buildings are also giving rise to challenging projects. With architects vying for kudos from designing and creating the best, the greenest, the most efficient, the most visually stunning example of modern architecture, consultants and contractors

have their work cut out for them in terms of making those buildings a reality. Yet, case studies showcasing the most fabulous – or fabulously interesting, at least – examples of modern buildings with high BREEAM ratings and lower fuel bills, cross my desk almost every day. Training and marketing were the two areas that were generally the first to be cut by any company when the recession bit hard. Both of these areas are now seeing investment as evidenced within the pages of this issue.

Training centres and courses are opening and being offered, and customers are thirsting for the knowledge that they’re delivering.

And marketing is becoming more creative, with clever adverts and initiatives. All in all there is a lot to shout about, and a lot is being achieved. And in the ACR News Awards, we have a category to cover each and every one of them. For those who aren’t sure if their product is good enough, or their company is big enough, or their work is special enough, the answer is, yes it is. If you’re proud of it, then it’s good enough to enter. Maybe you’ll even win.

But if you don’t then you definitely won’t. It’s an exciting time to be in, and we are looking forward to seeing entries from all those people who are proud of what they’ve produced, achieved or are otherwise proud of.

You have until 15 October, but you don’t have to wait until then – do it today!
