B&ES PUBLICATIONS HAS launched the newly updated TR/19 – Guide to Good Practice - Internal Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems, which offers guidance on the testing and cleaning of ventilation systems to meet required standards.
This edition of TR/19 incorporates reference to the new British and European Standard BS EN 15780 ‘Ventilation for Buildings – Ductwork – Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems’ introduced in 2011.
Bruce Bisset, B&ES President, said: “The internal cleanliness of ventilation systems is vital for human comfort and health, energy consumption, system service life and for cleanliness of operation or processes carried out in the ventilated area. As such, the guiding principle of this document is that a defined, measurable level of cleanliness should be achieved.
“The guide places a clear responsibility on the designers to ensure proper maintenance of building systems – crucial for the safe operation of occupied spaces – and to conform to workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations, in particular when compliance failure from inadequately cleaned systems can heighten the risk and spread of fire.” The guide can be used for new builds, upgrades and maintenance of ventilation systems.

The new light and dark blue Waterloo gets certified
IT IS NOT every day a business gets certified but Waterloo Air Products Plc has and it is very proud of it! With every business having to scrutinise its processes, comply with legislation, and ensure that it operations have minimal impact on the environment, any tool that can help ease the process must be welcome.
ISO 14001 is just such a tool and Waterloo has joined thousands of other companies and has been recently certified.
The standard is increasingly being adopted worldwide and as it is appearing in tenders as well, it is fast becoming a must–have certification for any business looking to stand out from the crowd and win new business.
The standard essentially maps out an environmental management system that helps businesses in any industry identify areas where costs
savings can be achieved such as energy consumption, the usage of raw materials and waste disposal.
But it also helps identify and improving operational efficiencies.
ISO 14001 can also help boost the bottom line with lower distribution costs, reduced insurance cover costs and can give you a significant advantage over competitors when tendering for projects. The whole certification process has been of immense value.
Waterloo has in place an environmental policy that provides a useful framework. All employees are aware of the environmental issues that affect the business and with their help, the company has reduced waste production by adopting waste minimisation measures and implemented recycling and recovery practices where possible. To date, Waterloo has
Rick Edmondson, chairman of Waterloo Air Products.
achieved a reduction of waste to landfill of 13% since 2012 and increased waste to recycling by 12%. The company has also reduced the risk of groundwater and surface water pollution by ensuring that all chemicals and waste products are effectively controlled and managed. Waterloo regularly reviews machinery and processes and where possible implements new practices to further reduce energy consumption.
