METALCASTING SUPPLIES Pneumatic Manipulators Can Handle Variety of Castings
Pneumatic 3-D part manipulators from TDA Buddy Inc., Kalamazoo, Mich., are designed and manufac- tured to grip castings up to 400 lbs. (181.4 kg). Te manipulators can roll, pitch or yaw a component, hold it rigid and then place it accurately for the next operation. Te TDA Buddy machines also feature neutral balance technology that allows heavy parts to be freely moved. TDA Buddy pneumatic manipulators are available with vari- ous grippers to lift castings with a wide range of designs. Custom tooling is available, including vacuum, mechanical and pneumatically actuated grippers. Te manipulators feature a 10-ft. (3m) reach radius, a vertical travel of 64 in. (1.6m) and rotation up to 360 degrees. Mounting options include fixed floor, fixed overhead, overhead rail, press face and portable
base plate (for forklift repositioning). Visit

Box Furnace Handles Heat Treating, Testing
No. 871 from the Grieve Corporation, Round Lake, Ill., is a 2,000F (1,093C) gas-heated box furnace used for heat treating and high temper- ature testing. Tree modulating natural gas burners with a floor mounted combustion air blower are capable of 650,000 BTU/HR. Workspace dimensions are 30 x 48 x 30 in. (0.76 x 1.22 x 0.76 m). Te unit has 7-in. insulated walls comprised of 5 in. of 2,300F (1,260C) ceramic fiber and 2 in. of 1,700F (927C) block insulation. Te 6.5-in. floor insula- tion is made of 4.5-in. 2,300F firebrick and 2-in. 1,900F (1,038C) block insulation. Te plate hearth is made of firebrick and is supported by fire- brick piers. Controls onboard No. 871 include a Partlow MRC 7,000 record- ing and programming temperature control- ler and an electrically operated vertical
lift door. Visit

64 | MODERN CASTING August 2014 Simulation Tools for Metalcasters
Flow Science Inc., Sante Fe, N.M., recently released FLOW-3D Cast, version 4, a com- putational fluid dynamics simulation software. Based on the recent solver for FLOW-3D version 11, FLOW-3D Cast offers users new simulation tools to improve metal castings. Te updated software features the Model Setup panel that reduces the time required to create real-world simulations. Users are guided through the simulation setup process by the setup panels at the left side of the Model Setup window. Elements of the casting process are entered by their actual names (such as mold, casting parts, filters) and appropriate
physical models are activated automatically. Visit

Hydraulic Box Dumper Boosts Efficiency
Te durable, welded steel design of Beacon’s BHBD series of hydraulic box dumpers makes them suitable for heavy duty industrial applica- tions like the collection and transfer of castings. Featuring weight capacities ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 lbs. (907 and 2,722 kg), these models can dump materials from heights of 36, 48 and 60 in. A handheld control console and protective mesh side screens on the structural frame are standard with each unit. Other op- tional features include hydraulic cylinder boot covers, different finishes, foot controls and high
cycle packages. Visit
