Products and contracts LG delivers solution for French project

Bouygues Construction is using LG’s flagship geothermal product Multi V Water II in the renovation of its Challenger headquarters office building in the Paris suburbs. The firm has adopted an ambitious sustainable development policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the consumption of non-renewable energy. It is the first building in the world to obtain certification to BREEAM, HQE and LEED at the highest levels of performance. For building owners looking to achieve energy efficiencies on cooling and heating, meet

stringent environmental targets and fulfil their CSR requirements, LG Multi V Water II is ideal. Itis a geothermal-ready, advanced VRF water cooled system specifically designed for high-rise buildings compatible with modern Building Management Systems (BMS) for maximum energy efficiencies. French civil engineering consultant Ferro Ingenierie was happy to specify LG Multi V Water II for the building in a system that uses 53 Multi V Water II units with heat recovery outdoor units supplying 426 duct heat pumps. According to Bouygues Construction, the ongoing benefits of LG Multi V II for the end user are energy savings and reduced running costs. 

CHP for Brussels hospital Dalkia has supplied St-Anne St-Remi Hospital in Brussels with combined heat and power technology (CHP). The plant will help to lower its utilities cost by using a single fuel source for the generation of electricity and hot water and is expected to save the hospital some 370 tonnes of CO2 annually. St-Anne St-Remi Hospital is the group’s third site

where Dalkia’s CHP division, Cogenco, has installed a CHP engine to cover the continuous demand for electricity and hot water. The 238kWe plant uses natural gas to fire the CHP engine and recovers the waste heat

emitted during the electrical generation process. The retrieved thermal energy is in turn used to produce low-grade hot water via onsite boilers. Dalkia provides guarantees on energy efficiency and availability as part of its service

package, which is vital to continuing the hospital’s 24/7 operation. 

Bitzer offers versatile compressors Bitzer says its Ecoline reciprocating compressors (4 to 221m³/h) are even more versatile. They are available not just for refrigerant R134a, but also R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F, R507A, propane, hydrocarbons and the new HFO and HFO/HFKW mix. Special Ecoline compressors can also be specified for high-pressure R410A refrigerants. The compressors are highly efficient and can be used as a replacement part within

existing refrigeration systems. The coefficient of performance (COP) has been improved throughout the series by 6% in terms of the usual nominal points and as much as 12% for the low condensing temperatures important for annual capacity (seasonal efficiency). The compressors with motor version 2 are now universal refrigeration compressors for full low and medium temperature applications. New Ecolines are compatible with the previous generation as they feature an unaltered mounting hole pattern and the same pipe connections. A number of design changes within the compressor have optimised the efficiency (higher cooling capacity with minimal energy requirements). New Ecoline also serves as a basis for all Varispeed compressors and the well-known air- and water-cooled condensing units.  

☎   Demand rises for marine fire dampers

Actionair, a brand of the Ruskin Air Management group, recently supplied more than 150 of its range of A-60 marine dampers to the largest and most expensive private yacht in the world. The 180m Azzam is larger than many ocean going liners and is owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi. Actionair is seeing considerable interest in its range of A-60 marine dampers built in its

factory in Whitstable, Kent as the international maritime industry continues to thrive. The dampers are available with galvanised casings and 430 grade stainless steel

blades or, as an option, in 316 grade stainless steel casings and blades. They satisfy the rigorous corrosion resistance and vibration control standards required by all international maritime testing agencies. They are corrosion tested to BSEN 60068-2-52 (severity 2 conditions) and vibration tested to BS EN 60068-2-6. The A-60 is ideal for dry filtered air and is tested and approved for fitting to class A-60 divisions (bulkheads and decks), when suitably insulated. The A-60 damper has undergone extensive fire testing.  

REHAU has launched the Easy Heat underfloor heating system, which it says is as fast and simple to install as radiators. According to REHAU, Easy Heat is the only underfloor heating system

available that does not require a manifold, bringing the option of underfloor heating into the mainstream end of the domestic new build and refurbishment sectors for the first time. It uses a conventional central heating boiler, familiar style thermostats and simple and secure pipework connections, so potentially can be installed as easily as a radiator based system. What makes Easy Heat even more straightforward is the fact that the new Easy Panel pipework is laid within a structural floor system, which suits the industry standard 600mm joist spacing, rather than within a poured floor screed. It is easy to install on ground and first floors, can be used with virtually any floor covering and has a rapid response time much more like radiators, rather than a traditional underfloor system. REHAU is investing in a new marketing campaign for Easy Heat, targeting house builders

Hamworthy extends BIM library Hamworthy Heating has extended its Building Information Modelling (BIM) library to include BIM objects for the recently upgraded Wessex ModuMax mk2 condensing boiler range. The parametric models, which are loaded with extensive metadata and optional pipekits are available to download from www.hamworthy-heating.com/bim Sam Boshier, Hamworthy’s BIM champion said: “We have

received a lot of requests for these BIM files. We’ve continued to ensure that the 3D models we provide are produced to the highest quality, with all relevant technical data embedded and at the same time kept the file size to a minimum.” All 15 models in the range have been encompassed in one BIM object making it easier

for the designer to change outputs and configure the boilers in two or three high arrangements. The compact, vertically stacking design of the Wessex ModuMax mk2 boilers makes them a great solution for plant rooms with limited space and projects where condensing boilers are used with renewable energy sources.  

Six Remeha Gilles biomass boilers have been installed at Brize Norton, the Royal Air Force’s largest station, as part of an ongoing replacement project to convert the existing oil boilers to biomass and slash carbon emissions. The Remeha biomass heating systems, which range from the specially-made 35kW system up to the 290kW system, are delivering an annual emissions saving of 309 tonnes. The stand-alone Remeha Gilles biomass boilers represent the first phase of the replacement programme. They require no back up from gas boilers, operating smoothly in 24-hour operation in a growing number of the station’s buildings. The first biomass installations at the station were in Building 305, the emergency response centre which would previously have emitted annual carbon emissions amounting to around 113.2 tonnes with the original oil-fired boilers in place. Since installing two Remeha Gilles 75kW biomass boilers, the RAF will effectively reduce this figure to zero. Remeha Commercial is well versed in all aspects of supplying biomass boilers, often in

conjunction with its energy-efficient, low NOx commercial gas boiler ranges. ☎   

building involved completely renewing the facilities in order to greatly improve the quality of living for tenants; including upgrading the general infrastructure of the building and providing state of the art, highly efficient heating and domestic hot water generation. Sureline perimeter heating is a natural convector which is easily fitted at skirting board

level, providing an ideal form of perimeter heating that delivers gentle low-level warmth into any room. Connected to the central heating system just like a radiator, hot water passes through the heat exchanger transferring heat to the aluminium fins; natural movement of air causes gentle circulation over the heat exchanger which is warmed and then delivered around the room. 
