Heat pump proves it can deliver Dimplex says that its new A-Class air source heat pump has consistently outperformed the Heat Emitter Guide, delivering ‘outstanding’ results in a series of field tests and adding proven performance to a long list of installer benefits. Dimplex worked with key installer partners to install 12 A-Class systems into domestic properties between August and October last year and has since used remote monitoring to measure the performance of each installation. Early analysis of the winter months shows the Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF) of all 12 installations has exceeded the figure that would be expected under the same conditions according to the Heat Emitter Guide – some by as much as a third. Every field test showed that A-Class would deliver running cost savings compared to a ‘standard’ air source heat pump performing at the levels expected by the Heat Emitter Guide. The new heat pump also offers benefits for installers to provide easy installation, including system packages which include most components required, a pre-programmed commissioning routine and simple wiring. The mono-block construction ensures installers do not need to be F-gas approved. The heat pump is initially available in 12kW and 16kW models. Dimplex

Smoke ventilation for new B&Q Adexsi UK has provided a smoke ventilation solution for a major new B&Q store in Bedford.

The company was asked by main contractor R G Carter to provide a solution that would deliver a high level of thermal control and improved indoor air quality as well as safeguarding life and property. Adexsi’s CE certified Certilight dual casement smoke ventilators were chosen to provide a combined smoke control and natural ventilation solution. The Certilight ventilators, as is common in most buildings of this type, are located along either side of the ridge line of the roof. They are well insulated to help regulate the internal temperature by reducing heat losses during winter months from the building’s warm air heating system. During the summer, the ventilators will automatically power open to introduce cooler air when the internal space reaches a certain temperature. It works in tandem with the warehouse’s building management system (BMS) to help regulate internal conditions. Adexsi UK’s Certilight Twin Flap Ventilators are specifically designed for installation in glazing systems with high atria and are tested to EN12101-2 for smoke ventilation. Adexsi UK

Airflow publishes catalogue Airflow Developments has launched a ventilation solutions catalogue to provide its customers with a complete overview of its residential, commercial and industrial product range. The informative catalogue covers everything from the simple extractor fan through to the latest in internet controlled heat recovery systems.

The 280-page catalogue is in 10 sections covering: residential fans, commercial fans, hand dryers, central extraction, ventilation with heat recovery, accessories and industrial fans. It also provides an update on the latest Building Regulations, plus training that is currently available at Airflow’s headquarters in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Airflow has been championing issues relating to air quality for nearly 60 years, but as energy resources become scarcer, regulations become tighter and the awareness of environmental issues relentlessly increases, the importance of well-specified ventilation has never been so high.

Marketing manager John Kelly said: “Available upon request via the airflow website, airflow. com, it clearly presents our complete range of products to suit all our customers’ requirements – so much so that we have no doubt that it will make for a very handy referral tool on the job.” Airflow Developments

Innovative chemical cleaning service A new chemical cleaning process that can maintain the efficiency and extend the working life of heat exchangers by several years is now available to industrial customers from chemical cleaning specialist Surface Processing Ltd (SPL). Heat exchangers are prone to fouling inside tubes and on external surfaces. This causes blockages, corrosion or leaks, which affects flow and pressure levels and ultimately impairs heat transfer. SPL’s MD Adrian McMurray said: “Fouling inevitably leads to a reduction in the efficiency of the heat exchanger, increasing energy consumption and operational costs, adding to wear and tear and reducing its working life if not cleaned at regular intervals.” Unlike traditional jetting methods, SPL’s immersive process offers consistent cleaning power on both inner and outer surfaces. With no need to dismantle and then reassemble the individual components of a heat exchanger, SPL claims its process results in less downtime. Small heat exchangers can be treated at SPL’s Dudley facility. Equipment too large to be moved or dipped in tanks can be treated on-site by a team of technicians who can achieve effective results through immersion by pumping the cleaning products through the entire system. Big Foot Systems unveils High Bloc Big Foot Systems has introduced the High Bloc which provides an innovative support solution for mounting air conditioning (AC) units on flat roofs.

A simple but highly effective solution for increasing the height of VRF/AC installations, the High Bloc safely spreads the plant load evenly across the roof.

Ensuring cost-effective roof-clearance for AC equipment in line with manufacturers’ instructions, the High Bloc helps to ensure that cooling systems work effectively. Designed to raise the Big Foot Fix It Foot rooftop services support product, the High Bloc helps keep AC units clear of debris, precipitation and ice on flat roofs. Moulded from recycled rubber, it is UV stable, robust and has anti-vibration built in.

Available in two sizes, the High Bloc 600 (L 600mm x W 180mm x H 120mm) and the High Bloc 1000 (L 1000mm x W 180mm x 120mm), the product is lightweight at 9.5kg and 15.8kg respectively. The design load for the High Bloc 600 is 224kg and for the High Bloc 1000 is 295kg. Big Foot Systems

State-of-the-art water heating Rinnai claims that the imminent launch of its lowest (NOx) rated Infinity water heating appliance is set to “revolutionise the industry”. The new state-of-the-art Infinity 1600i condensing Low-NOx water heater has been tested to below 20ppm (NOx). In commercial test areas incorporating flow and return systems the units have recorded NOx levels as low as 7ppm, which Rinnai says is due to the incorporation of its innovative down firing pre-mix burner and continual optimisation of gas input using intelligent integral controls and a modulation range of between 56kW to 4kW. The heater can also demonstrate thermal efficiencies of 105 per cent. The Infinity 1600 i/e low nox series is available with an output of 54kW producing 37 litres of temperature controlled hot water per minute.

The use of advanced condensing technology combined with Rinnai’s new down firing pre-mix burners ensures every cubic metre of natural gas or LPG is utilised to the maximum. The units are also renewables-ready and suitable for use as a temperature booster for solar thermal and heat-pump installations. The new range will be available this Summer.

Remote monitoring software ICS Cool Energy has launched Remote X, a cost-effective, dedicated software programme that enables businesses to keep on top of their cooling processes and chiller system operations remotely. ICS director Adam Spolnik said: “Remote X allows users to observe remotely a comprehensive set of measures inside their cooling equipment through a simple, easy to use and accessible interface. This of course includes energy consumption; a practical application for those looking to improve on energy efficiencies and reduce costs.”

He continued: “The software gives remote access for up to four chillers on one account, is compatible with any ICS Cool Energy or other branded chillers, and is available as an easy to install retrofit option for models old and new.”

Remote X offers the option of producing reports on connected chillers, allowing for tighter monitoring to ascertain how effectively a unit runs over periods of time. It can be customised to produce stats and audit trails of alarms, temperatures and other chiller activity. The software is accessible in real time 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with support from ICS engineers. ICS Cool Energy
