HILLGATE WINS INNOVATION AWARD
58 BBT JULY/AUGUST 2014
“THE SECOND RECIPIENT AND WORTHY WINNER of our award is Hillgate Travel with its ResWay technology,” says CEO of the GTMC Paul Wait. “ResWay is a search and booking tool that brings together GDS and non-GDS content into one platform, not only creating greater efficiencies for agents but also allowing Hillgate’s customers to get a complete picture of their travellers’ activity. This ensures they have comprehensive management information and therefore total control of their budgets, providing what every travel buyer and procurement professional aspires to. It is the Holy Grail.” Anthony Rissbrook, Managing
Director of Hillgate Travel, explains: “For some years, TMCs have been under increasing pressure to provide clients with more and more choices and we have to go to an ever more diverse range of places to find the content. Without the right technology, this makes the service we offer both slower and more expensive – and being more expensive is not an option these days. In addition, without the right technology, high offline transaction fees or offline searches that ‘cut corners’ are inevitable. The only option is to design technology that removes the problem.” “ResWay is Hillgate’s solution to
this problem.”
GTMC and Travelport recognise investment in technology
THE NEED FOR TMCs TO DEMONSTRATE THEY ARE AGILE, AHEAD OF THE GAME AND GOOD VALUE IS UNARGUABLE – INVESTMENT IN TECHNOLOGY IS THEREFORE CRUCIAL TO THIS ENDEAVOUR. THE GTMC AND TRAVELPORT AWARDS PROGRAMME RECOGNISES TMCs THAT ARE USING TECHNOLOGY TO DRIVE INNOVATION IN THEIR BUSINESS AND IS NOW IN ITS SECOND STAGE
QUESTION… ResWay was created to address four key industry issues: inefficient booking processes, demand for lower transaction fees, clients’ pressure on TMCs to quote the lowest air and hotel tariffs and the need to provide online/ offline price parity. There has long been an imperative to marry up GDS and non-GDS content, as companies look for greatest flexibility and choice at the lowest possible price. Until now, it has required separate searches of GDS and non- GDS websites, plus the setting up of a number of other functions to allow provision of invoicing, MI and 24-hour support. This labour-intensive process and the increased use of non-GDS low-cost airlines and budget hotels in recent years has made completing European reservations a more and more protracted process. Despite the fact this means it now takes a greater time to make a reservation, TMCs are under continuing pressure to reduce transaction fees,
