Global airfares


are expected to fall 3.5 per cent in 2014, according to IATA’s latest study. With global spend on air transport expected to hit US$746 billion in 2014 and passenger numbers rising to 3.3 billion, the study showed airfares will continue to fall in real terms (after inflation) compared to the previous year. IATA’s Airline Industry Economic Performance report also found the industry has cut US$700 million off its global profit forecast for 2014. IATA now expects airlines to make a profit of US$18 billion.

is now codesharing with Spanish airline Vueling on more than 170 routes. The “significant move” for both IAG airlines means BA travellers can book Vueling flights through all BA sales channels, and collect Avios points for these bookings. The services are largely centred on Vueling’s operation in Italy, with 37 international and 11 domestic routes from Vueling’s Rome Fiumicino base.


UNITED AIRLINES


will suspend its New York-to-


Belfast service for three months from January 2015. The route, which is the only direct link


between Northern Ireland and the US, will be affected from January 6 until March 15. The decision follows a “company- wide review” by United.
