New slim fit from Astra T

he 3000 series of fully-controlled concealed door closers from Astra Door Controls now features a new slimline face plate to make it easier and quicker to fit, and even more discrete and attractive in situ.

The 3000 Series concealed closers offer all the adjustability and control of an overhead closer, with the aesthetic appeal of a concealed device. They are often specified when clean, minimal design is required without compromising on performance -– even on ½ hour and 1 hour fire doors.

The closers’ face plate has now been reduced in width to just 32mm. Not only does that mean it looks more unobtrusive than ever, it is also easier to fit as less timber needs to be removed to fit the closer into the door edge. Specifiers appreciate the Astra closers’ understated appearance so it is regularly selected for the most prestigious projects – in fact any scheme where the clunky institutional feel of an overhead closer is inappropriate.

The 3000 series of concealed door closers from Astra is manufactured in the UK, in four different power sizes with adjustable closing speed and latching

action for different size and weights of doors. A unique hydraulic piston assembly, designed by Astra, offers an adjustable, controlled rate of door closure together with an adjustable ‘snap action’ for overcoming the latch.

The closers’ quality design and build makes it perfect for high traffic applications, both commercial and residential. Unlike other concealed closers on the market, the Astra 3000 series is fully controlled and adjustable, making it a really viable alternative to overhead products at a sensible price. This adjustability helps specifiers to achieve doors which comply with the Equality Act 2010, Building Regs and PAS 24 for entrance doors and the RRO for fire doors. The Series 3000 range of closers was developed in-house by Astra. The Size 3 version (3003) is approved to EN1154 (when the power latching action is set to maximum) and CE marked. Fire tests in accordance with BSEN 1634-1:2000 and BSEN 1634-1:1999 have also been carried out making the closers suitable for fire doors. Astra also carries out continuous in-house testing up to half a million cycles.

Astra is well known for its door closer range including the popular Gibraltar range. The Lancashire-based company can demonstrate many years experience in the sector and carries out all of its own R&D in-house. It exports its British door closers all across the globe via a network of distributors and partner companies. Tel: 01772 796901

Fernox gets the seal of approval A

fter years of experiencing issues on a range of different central heating system filters,

Vinshire Plumbing & Heating Limited has switched to using the Fernox

TF1 Compact filter. As a result, the team has reduced the amount of installation time spent on-site as well as the number of callbacks received. Since 1989 Vinshire Plumbing & Heating limited has served the local community in Derby, specialising in the installation of domestic central heating systems, gas service and the maintenance of domestic appliances. Over the last decade, the company has installed 15,000 central heating systems and boiler upgrades in the East Midlands area. Moreover, the company is at present looking after approximately 110 installations per week.

“Most of our installations now incorporate a filter as it’s proven to be a reliable way of removing debris from existing systems and maintaining water clarity in new installs”, commented Simon Burdell, Procurement Manager at Vinshire Plumbing & Heating Limited. “The Fernox TF1 Compact is now our filter of choice. The filter’s superior build quality, competitive price and the fact that its manufactured by such a trusted brand in the industry only further adds to its desirability.”

The Fernox TF1 Compact is ideal for both new and existing systems as it uses hydrocyclonic action to deliver central heating system contaminants to the unit’s specially designed magnet assembly. The TF1 Compact has been developed to fit on to domestic heating systems where installation access is restricted. Providing multiple orientation capability enabled by its unique inlet/ outlet port, the filter can be installed 45 degrees if headroom clearance is limited, and can be fitted directly onto 22mm vertical or horizontal pipework. In addition, when required Vinshire Plumbing & Heating is utilising Fernox’s new TF1 Range Seal and ‘O’ Ring Kit, which contains all the necessary seals to keep a TF1 filter water tight following installation, servicing and maintenance of the unit. Best practice dictates that when fitting a filter, if the lid has been removed for some reason prior to installation, the pre-assembled lid ‘O’ ring should be replaced due to compression that might have occurred in the process of removal.
