HELSINKI GREETS ZOMBIE INVASION EMEA NEWS

Casino Helsinki has warmly welcomed an invasion of plants and zombies as GTECH installs its latest PopCap title Finland - Casino slots

Casino Helsinki has recently installed two Plants vs. Zombies titles from GTECH’s gaming product brand, SPIELO, and they have become an immedi- ate success with players. The two titles – Plants vs. Zombies Gargantuar and Plants vs. Zombies Backyard Showdown – have revived a slow area on the casino floor, according to casino manage- ment.

Both games feature the Graveyard Bonus, where players pick tombstones, collect suns to win one of three progressives, and avoid the brain-craving zombies. Plants vs. Zombies Gargantuar offers a plant/zombie scatter pay and random wilds in the base game, with the Vase Breaker Pick-a-Prize and Gargantuar Free Spins bonuses. Meanwhile, Plants vs. Zombies Backyard Showdown has a base game where plant symbols have special powers – just like the casual game. In the Who Will Win the Spin bonus, players win extra credits for guessing three correct spins in a row.

The top-selling casual Plants vs. Zombies games are played by millions of people worldwide and appeal equally to both men and women. GTECH worked closely with PopCap to stay true to the spirit of their brands and create terrifically fun and engaging Plants vs. Zombies slot games that capture the games’ creativity, humour and atten- tion to detail.

“We installed the Plants vs. Zombies machines in an area that has been quite difficult game-wise. But from the very first day, customers have taken to the machines, and I have received a lot of posi-

Switzerland Switzerland is looking at the prospects of opening up its gambling industry to include online gambling. The decline in tourists from Italy who have been frequenting casinos in Lugano among others for years has made the government in Switzerland redefine its focus for the gambling industry. New draft legislation is a step forward allowing for online gambling and land-based casinos to get in on the action that the Italian, French and other bordering nations have already established. The bill proposes that gaming winnings be tax-free and poker tournaments will be allowed outside of casinos.

tive feedback from our players about the games. The customers seem to like the bonus rounds very much, and love that they happen quite frequently,” said Sina Hentunen, Business Manager at Casino Helsinki.

“The games have not only attracted new players, but our regular players enjoy playing them because of the progressive prizes. The machines themselves look great and they definitely bring the ‘wow’ effect to the casino floor. I am very happy with the initial revenues and games played.”

GTECH’s PopCap library of games is presented on the MaXVusion cabinet with a 32ins. portrait high definition LCD top screen. This cabinet offers cus- tomised, dynamic content and vibrant game screen features, along with highly visible, theme- specific packaging and a full-colour digital button deck.

“We know our customers want compelling and entertaining content that will intrigue current players, while also growing the player base,” said Athanasios “Sakis” Isaakidis, GTECH Sr. Director and General Manager, EMEA Casino.

“The positive performance of Plants vs. Zombies at Casino Helsinki proves once again that we work closely with our customers to provide them with the right products for their operation.”

UK – ARENA DROPS WOLVERHAMPTON TENDER Arena Racing Company has now dropped its plans to bid for a small casino licence at Wolverhampton Racecourse leaving sole bidder Casino 36 in the driving seat. Casino 36 wants to expand its Rubicon venue in Temple Street.

Wolverhampton City Council has confirmed, however, that the licence award process will proceed as planned even though there is only one applicant. The council’s Evaluation Panel will analyse the bid and submit a report to the Licensing Committee on June 25. Casino 36 owns three casinos: the Rubicon Casino in Wolverhampton, Casino 36 in Stockport and Castle Casino in Dudley.

Wolverhampton City Council made moves to allow Rubicon Casino to increase its footfall into two adjoining nightclubs, although Arena Racing, local residents and religious groups all opposed the move.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity, said: ” As well as enhancing the leisure offer we have here in Wolverhampton, a new development such as this will provide extra regeneration benefits to our city – such as the creation of new jobs.”
