Wilson Family Reclaims Brewton Iron Works Earle Wilson Jr. has repurchased
Brewton Iron Works Inc., Brewton, Ala., from Allied-Locke Industries Inc., Dixon, Ill. In attendance at the signing ceremony this January was U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, who was touring manu- facturing facilities in the state. In 2002, Allied-Locke Industries, a major customer of Brewton Iron Works Inc., purchased the minority shares of stock of the company from
local investors. T is was followed by a buyout of Earle Wilson Jr. in 2006. In 2013, Allied-Locke president Bill Crowson off ered the company back to Wilson, placing it once again in the hands of the Wilson family. Wilson is chairman of the board and his son, Rick Wilson, serves as president of the company. Brewton Iron Works Inc. special- izes in mechanical power transmis-
sion components such as sprockets, wheels, idlers and traction wheels. It also manufactures low volume gray and ductile iron parts, fl ame cut steel and UHMW plastic components for a variety of industries in the U.S.
Shelco Foundries Growing in AL
Engine component maker Gnutti
Carlo USA has announced plans to expand Shelco Foundries, Jackson- ville, Ala., and double its workforce to approximately 200 people by the end of next year. A new 65,000-sq.-ft. machine shop will be built onsite at the iron casting plant. T e company purchased the metalcaster in 2012 and has invested more than $250,000 in equipment and facility improvements since then. T e company will close its machine shop in New Jersey at the end of this year in a move to central- ize its operations in Alabama.
Superior Industries Expanding in Mexico
Superior Industries, Van Nuys, Calif., is expanding with another plant in Chi- huahua, Mexico, to produce aluminum wheels for the automotive market. LPM, Italy, will install 42 low pressure casting machines and furnaces, as well as a tool shop for dies. Project lead Jorge Caballero will as-
sume responsibility as general manager once the facility is operational, accord- ing to the company. It is anticipated that the facility will be operational in early 2015.
