THE BLUE DANUBE

Climb to the ruins of Kuenringerburg Castle for a stunning perspective on the Danube and the charming village of Dürnstein

1. ARRIVE PRAGUE

Tour begins: 5:30 PM, InterContinental Prague or Prague Marriott Hotel A transfer is included from Prague’s Vaclav Havel Airport or the Praha Hlavni Nadrazi train station to InterContinental Prague or Prague Marriott Hotel for a memorable two-night stay. Begin your amazing trip with a royal welcome reception, tour and dinner at the elegant 16th-century Lobkowicz Palace at Prague Castle. Immerse in an evening of classical cultural treasures as you enjoy a privileged entrée into the aristocratic world of the regal Lobkowicz family. Meals D

2. PRAGUE’S CASTLE & COBBLESTONE STREETS Go inside Prague’s soaring cathedrals and architectural riches with sightseeing hosted by local guides, including the Hradcany (Castle) district and the magnificent Gothic Cathedral of St. Vitus. Tauck’s exclusive private tour of the grand libraries of Strahov Monastery, resplendent in design and décor, is a highlight; view treasures other visitors won’t see. You will have time at leisure to explore Prague’s winding cobblestone streets as you please, or you can join our local guide on a walking tour through Old Town, choosing to see the Museum of Communism or the city’s poignant Jewish heritage sites. (Ask at booking about dates when we cannot visit inside the Jewish heritage sites as they are closed Saturdays.) Lantern-lit streets set the mood for dinner on your own tonight in one of the many fine cafés and restaurants serving up some of the region’s best dishes... schnitzels, dumplings, strüdels, goulashes... paired, of course, with local wine and beer. 3. REGENSBURG /  EMBARK RIVERBOAT Drive to the quintessential Bavarian town of Regensburg, Germany, nestled on the banks of the River Danube. Take a bit of free time to have lunch in this delightful place – Regensburg is famous for its sausage – before a walking tour to view the town’s historic sights up close. A local guide will lead the way as you see the 12th-century Steinerne Brücke (Germany’s oldest surviving stone bridge); the 15th-century Altes Rathaus (Town Hall); the twin-spired Dom St. Peter; and the remains of the town’s Roman wall. Afterwards embark your riverboat, docked on the Danube and ready for your arrival; join us for the Captain’s welcome reception and dinner tonight. Meals BD

4.  PICTURESQUE PASSAU, “CITY OF 3 RIVERS” One of our guests told us that her experience on The Blue Danube was like taking a magic carpet ride through a parade of picturesque places, getting on and off in towns that just beg to be explored! Today’s early arrival in Passau, at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube rivers, lets you do just that when we disembark for a walking tour with a local guide whose passion for his hometown makes your visit even more special. Sights include St. Stephan’s Cathedral and its magnificent pipe organ – the largest in Europe (unavailable for an inside visit on Sundays). Spend some free time exploring the Baroque town’s pedestrian walkways through tunnels and archways and along ancient cobblestone streets. Spend the afternoon cruising to Linz, Austria; there’s entertainment on board this evening. Meals BLD
