Alternatively, tour one of the most fascinating districts in Paris, colorful Montmartre, beloved by artists and writers, home to bohemian cafés and cabarets like the Moulin Rouge; your visit includes sightseeing aboard the famous petite “miniature train” that winds through the neighborhood. 13. THE ROYAL CHAPEL AT DREUX Spend the morning in Versailles, then drive into the countryside for a visit to the town of Dreux and the magnificent chapel and mausoleum of the House of Orléans. During the French Revolution, a mob desecrated the family crypt at Château de Rambouillet and threw the remains into a common grave; in 1816, the Duchess of Orléans built a chapel on the gravesite
that has been the family’s resting place ever since. The Royal Chapel of Dreux with its great rotunda and stained glass is a breathtaking gallery of 19th-century marble sculpture and sarcophagi.
