2014 PREVIEW New Seminars Planned for San Diego Sunroad Boat Show


Free boat rides, boating semi- nars and more are set for Jan. 23-26.

SAN DIEGO – This year’s San Diego Sunroad Boat Show – Jan.23-26 – will offer a variety of activities, seminars and entertainment, to go along with an impressive in-water display of more than 125 boats. The show, held at the newly reno-


vated Sunroad Resort Marina, will fea- ture free boat rides, free sailing lessons from Seaforth Boat Rentals and free rides on an 18-foot electric boat. In addition, several new seminars


are expected to be well attended by boat show guests. Boat owners can learn the inner workings of a bilge pump during “Confessions of a Bilge Pump – What Really goes on in an Engine Room,” which will be led by


Dockside Yacht Repair Manager, Rick Krug of APS Marine Services and Equipment. The one-hour technical lecture will touch on many aspects of boat maintenance and repair. Some of the subjects covered will be plumb- ing systems, bilge pumps, electrical systems, galvanic corrosion and engine maintenance. Another new addition, is a talk on “Power Management for the Green Sailor,” presented by Mike Gunning of Electric Yachts. This semi- nar will address ways to provide for and how to manage power for the sailor who wishes to reduce their car- bon footprint while expanding their sailing capabilities. Capt. Pat Rains, author of cruising guide author and yacht delivery skip- per, will return with a seminar on “Mexico: Let’s Go “Commuter Cruising,” where attendees will find out all they need to know about plan- ning a cruise to Mexico.

Saturday and Sunday. Visit bigbayboatshow.com for seminar times. Boat attendees in the market for a new vessel will want to take a look at this year’s many featured boats, including Orange Coast Yachts’ dis- play of the largest boat in the show: a 103-Wesport. Other boats to be presented in this


year’s show will include a 40-foot Lagoon Catamaran from Naos Yachts, Inc. and a 63-foot Hatteras from Chuck Hovey Yachts, a 50-foot Prestige from Bayport Yachts along with three 44- and 35-foot catamarans from West Coast Multihulls. Northrop and Johnson will also have the 85-foot luxury sailing yacht, Adjuctor, on display during the show. The custom designed vessel was built in New Zealand and named after the patron saint of yachtsman and swim- mers.


Guests can also peruse the more than 125 new and brokerage sailboats and powerboats, ranging from 25 to 90 feet in length. The show promises an extensive lineup of Searays, Beneteaus, Catalinas and Jeanneaus. Exhibitors include Bayport Yachts,


Cruising Yachts, Inc., Flying Tiger Boats and Northrup and Johnson, Mikelson Yachts, Silver Sea Yachts and many more. Show hours are noon-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $12 for adults; free for children 12 and younger. Active military, EMTs, police and fire personnel will be admitted free on Thursday and Friday, with I.D. Sunroad Resort Marina is located
