Hydratech sees increased demand

HYDRATECH has experienced a significant increase in demand for its specialist heat transfer fluids, posting record sales for the last quarter. There was a 21% increase in like-for-like sales, with total fluid production topping 1.46m litres in 2013, up nearly 15% on the previous year. “The increased interest we are seeing in our products confirms an awareness of the problems associated to non- specialist, uninhibited fluids in multi-metal cooling systems,” said Steve Hickson, managing director of Hydratech. Hydratech invests heavily in research and development to constantly expand its product range and often formulate bespoke fluids to meet specific customer requirements. The company has joined forces with Brewfitt. to develop

a unique secondary refrigerant for use in beer and beverage coolers. 2Flow and other sub-zero solutions are integral fluids within Brewfitt’s ‘Future of Dispense’ systems which are gaining increasing market share throughout Europe. Based in Swansea, Hydratech is a leading manufacturer of secondary refrigerants and inhibited antifreeze solutions for the HVAC, refrigeration, process cooling, power and renewable energy sectors. The company has built up a customer base of companies which includes well-known brands such as Sainsburys, Waitrose, Nestle, Cadbury, Airbus, Red Bull, Diageo, Lidl, Arla, Warburtons, Dairy Crest, Toshiba Carrier Corporation, GEA Group, Aggreko, Siemens, EON, SSE and GDF Suez.

M&S wins with CIBSE

THE Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) revealed the winners of its Building Performance Awards at a ceremony on Tuesday 11 February 2014 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Attendees saw Sustainable Design Solutions and Marks & Spencer awarded the overall accolade of ‘Carbon Champion of the Year’ for its commitment to improving building performance and reduction of energy consumption at the retailer’s Cheshire Oaks store, which also won the New Build Project of the Year (<£10m). Munish Datta, head of sustainability strategy at Marks & Spencer, on receiving the Carbon Champion of the Year Award, said: “‘Cheshire Oaks represents the very best of M&S and we are delighted to have been recognised by CIBSE for its performance.” These two significant Awards for one of the leading retail businesses in the UK

come hot on the heels of the retail sector as a whole recognising the critical nature of reducing carbon emissions through energy efficiency and systems design. Last week the British Retail Consortium announced ambitious targets to cut energy-related emissions from buildings by 50% by 2020, targets set under its ‘A Better Retailing Climate: Driving Resource Efficiency’ initiative.

The 2014 Building

Performance Awards Judging Panel said that Marks & Spencer’s Cheshire Oaks store demonstrates what the private sector can achieve on a voluntary basis.

CIBSE president, George Adams, commented that all of this year’s Building Performance Award winners and nominees should be celebrated for their outstanding accomplishments, and for showing how our industry can reach out to achieve beyond best practice.
