intimate setting and up-close interactions with the animals are what sets it apart from the rest.”

Building upon the rich 78-year tradition of Parrot Jungle, today’s 18- acre Jungle Island is home to over 300 vibrant birds but also some of the world’s rarest and most unusual animals including a set of rare twin orangutans, a liger (tiger/lion cross) billed as the world’s largest cat, and the most lethal bird on the planet, the cassowary. Guests get to participate in hands-on interactions with fascinating creatures, marvel at the engaging animal shows and presentations, and be amazed by the park’s landscapes and vistas. Featuring 1.4 miles (2.2km) of winding, covered walkways, Jungle Island recreates the boardwalk trails of the Florida Everglades and features the native flora and fauna prevalent in this unique environment, from the extraordinary African sausage tree to a collection of rare cycads. Major attractions include The Winged Wonders show, performed in the

1,200-seater Parrot Bowl. Enchanting audiences with singing and talking birds, it includes the free-flying condor with its 11ft (3.5m) wingspan and “Mama Cass,” the world’s only trained Cassowary. Wild Encounter, in the Jungle Theater, is the park’s conservation-oriented, exotic animal show featuring white tigers, baby primates, gibbons and more. Meanwhile the Dr Wasabi’s Wild Adventures show in the Serpentarium introduces audiences to animals including an African crested porcupine, alligator snapping turtle, lemurs and penguins. Manú Encounter, an expansive walk-through aviary and replica of its namesake in Peru, is one of Jungle Island’s treasures. This unique exhibit is modelled after the clay cliffs that provide shelter to the wild populations of macaws and other animals in Manú including dozens of colourful macaws and a troop of squirrel monkeys, all roaming freely.

La Playa, Jungle Island’s

Private Beach, is ideal for relaxing in a lounge chair while the children enjoy one of the aquatic inflatables or splash in the water to cool off. The beach is also available for private parties and barbeques. A dedicated children’s area features a large playground and petting farm. Featuring a natural bio- filtration system, the park also provides an educational platform for water

conservation and ecological studies. For decades, Jungle Island has been instrumental in bringing hundreds of

thousands of visitors a year to Miami from across US and around the world. Last

month, it was even rented out by the superstar couple Beyoncé and Jay- Z, who used it as a backdrop for their two-year-old daughter after the regular guests had gone home.
