Prezzemolo Land Gardaland mascot gets own zone
While other parks introduce new themed areas based around licensed intellectual property, Gardaland in Italy will be celebrating is own in-house mascot in 2014 with the opening of Prezzemolo Land. “Prezzemolo is an established character at Gardaland and a massive favourite with young children, so when looking at developing new experiences for this age group in the resort it made perfect sense to develop his character in this way,” says Mark Fisher, chief development officer for Garadaland owner Merlin Entertainments.
A medieval castle will stand tall at the centre of the new area, surrounded by waterslides slides and other wet and wacky diversions including a giant tipping barrel. Young guests will be invited to defend the castle from attack using water cannons.
Beyond the castle itself we are promised “huge flying machines, happy catapults, acrobatic trampolines, towers, bridges and more surprises.” There
IE Park tower rides
It must be one of the last Italian ride manufacturers to add such a product line to its portfolio, but now IE Park is selling a range of tower rides alongside its other attractions aimed at FEC operators. A variety of “drop and bounce” experiences have been created by the company's technicians, along with multiple theming and capacity configurations. All are manufactured using the latest hydraulic and steel rope technologies and are produced according to the EN13814 standard. Two eight-seater models are available, along with a 10, 12 and 16-seater, providing hourly capacities from 160 to 320 riders. Heights range from 5.5m to 29m and all have the option of
either a standard or rotating gondola. Suitable for indoor or outdoor use, the towers can withstand winds of up to 150km/h.
Some of the first

will even be a planetarium. Changing rooms will be provided and guests will be able to enjoy the fun with or without a swimming costume. As well as all the wet and dry play equipment, visitors will be able to ride the new Macchina Volante (Flying Machine) attractions with its four enormous blades. Completing the colourful Prezzemolo Land will be a spacious dining area. Other Gardaland features for 2014 include the return of Eurochocolate, a two-week festival kicking off the season from 1 to 13 April. On the latter date, guests will be able to enter the park for the price of just €23 instead of €37.50 if they turn up dressed as superhero.

Whilst Drayton Manor got all the attention when it opened Thomas Land, a smaller English park was actually the first to introduce Thomas & Friends to its guests
when it opened a themed railway in 2007. And now Drusillas in Sussex, near the south coast, is about to add another popular IP – Hello Kitty, The new Hello Kitty Secret Garden will launch at the animal park in mid-May, but guests got a sneak peak of a tea cup ride over the recent February half-term school holiday (as pictured). Brokered in a deal with Japanese licence holder Saniro, the completed area will have a unique local twist; set inside an English garden. Zamperla is on board as ride supplier and will also deliver a car ride and “reach for the sky” helicopter ride. A Hello Kitty bedroom and beauty parlour, plus meet and greet event days over holiday periods, will also be offered. “We have always been a mix of animals and leisure attractions and we think Hello Kitty and Drusillas are a perfect match,” says managing director Laurence Smith. “We will be working very hard to ensure that this new area blends in with the rest of the park.”

Air Race Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, and Drayton Manor in Staffordshire, England, are among the latest amusement parks set to take delivery of a Zamperla Air Race. Replicating many of the sensations of an acrobatic plane flight, Air Race combines a 6rpm central rotation with a motor-driven arm rotation that provides riders with banks loops, dives and weightless, plus almost 3G of acceleration.
The New Jersey park has ordered an eight plane/16-seater version of the ride, which will open on the lower deck of the pier this summer, where its unusual motion is expected to attract many passers-by. Located outside the town of Tamworth in the heart of England, Drayton Manor will open its Air Race – a 24- seater version – in time for the summer. The ride will be located in the Action Park area of the park. Zamperla also supplied the bulk of the rides featured in Drayton’s popular Thomas Land kids’ area.
