ADVERTORIAL storage
Density. Flexibility. Performance.
New Adaptec by PMC Series 8 RAID adapters unleash SSD flash performance with complete 12 Gb/s SAS storage solution.
DATA CENTER, IT, and general consumer server environments have a broad range of requirements — from basic connectivity to extreme data storage capacities. The effectiveness at which their data is accessed and protected is crucial to their ultimate success. The Adaptec Series 8 12Gb/s RAID Adapter product family directly addresses the connectivity, performance, and data protection needs, unmatched by anything in the industry.
Systems designed with Adaptec by PMC’s solutions can provide double the overall storage connectivity as competing solutions, with fewer components and less space and power. PMC’s 12Gb/s SAS architecture is optimized to deliver the performance, flexibility and density needed for dynamic data in cloud computing, content delivery networks, and mission-critical database applications.
New levels of performance Adaptec Series 8 delivers an industry-leading >700,000 4K Random Read IOPS, a 60 percent improvement over the previous generation. This level of performance unleashes the full potential of 12Gb/s SAS SSDs, which are twice as fast as 6Gb/s SAS SSDs and up to 1,000 times faster than traditional hard drives. Series 8 adapters deliver at up to 6.6 GB/s on Sequential Reads and up to 5.2 GB/s on Sequential Writes on parity RAID 5.
The Adaptec Series 8 RAID adapter family features PMC’s PM8063 RAID-on-Chip (ROC), which combines a x8 PCIe Gen3 interface with 12Gb/s SAS ports to enable a new generation of high- performance RAID adapters for the 12Gb/s storage ecosystem. Adaptec Series 8 RAID adapters are available with 8 or 16 native SAS/SATA ports. The miniSAS HD connectors combined with SAS HD cables allow for greater flexibility in configuration options by supporting up to 16 native SAS/SATA ports in a Low-Profile MD2 form factor.
Highlights: £ 12 Gb/s throughput at each port £ Maximum performance for up to 16 SSDs directly connected (no expander needed)
£ Up to 16 native SAS/SATA ports in an LP/ £ MD2 form factor £ SAS 3.0 interface and PCIe Gen 3 Host Connection
£ Zero Maintenance Cache Protection for data integrity after power loss
£ Auto configuration of Simple Volume and £ HBA modes — “set it and forget it” £ MiniSAS HD connectors and SAS HD cables — for fit and function in dense server configurations
£ Support for up to 256 SAS and SATA devices
£ Support for SSD, HDD, Autoloader, RBOD, Tape
£ maxCache Plus Tiered Storage Solution £ maxCache SSD Caching
maxCache™ Plus
maxCache Plus with Series 8 provides the flexibility to configure all storage devices in a server environment, not just those connected to PMC hardware. It allows SSDs to be used as the fastest level in tiered storage versus just cache, maximizing the use of 12Gb/s drives. All storage assets in a server can be leveraged according to their performance capabilities with the fastest media used for data acceleration, enabling the most cost-effective storage architecture. With innovations like the maxCache Plus™ tiering capability, the Series 8 RAID adapters help datacenter architects to get the most value and performance out of their storage assets. maxCache Plus and maxCache SSD caching are available on the 8885Q and 81605ZQ models.
Complete product family The Series 8 family has four models, all based on PMC’s 12Gb/s SAS RoC controllers, in low-profile form factor. Configurations include a 16-port adapter that connects twice as many drives as competing solutions. This unique technology also provides the flexibility to create hybrid storage arrays utilizing any combination of SSDs and HDDs. Series 8 adapters can utilize flash-based cache protection to backup controller Write cache in the event of power loss. This functionality is available in the form of an AFM-700 module for the 8805 (optional), the 8085 (optional) and the 8885Q (included). The functionality is integrated on board on the 81605ZQ.
