Products Test & Measurement Measurement at high voltages

To meet the need to measure capacitance and dissipation factor at high voltages, Megger’s has launched its new CDAX 605 test set. The CDAX 605 combines a wide measuring range with fully automatic opera- tion, and is well suited for tests on power and instrument transformers, liquid and solid insulation, cables, shunt reactors, capacitors and bushings.

The CDAX 605 provides direct readings of capacitance, dissipation factor, inductance and ratio without the need for bridge balanc- ing or calculations. It achieves an accuracy of 0.02% for capacitance over the range 0 to

100µF, and 0.002% for dissipation factor from 0 to 100. Absolute current and voltage levels are measured with an accuracy of 0.5%. Like a traditional bridge, the CDAX 605 works with an external refer- ence and high voltage source, but with the CDAX 605, the reference can be either a capacitor or a resistor, and the measurement object can be capacitive, inductive or resistive.

This is beneficial, as calibrated standard capacitors are typically only available in a limited range of values, which means that with con- ventional measurement techniques the test current for high ratio devices like capacitive coupled voltage transformers (CCVTs) can be undesirably low. Irrespective of the type and value of the reference used with the CDAX 605, no recalculation of results is needed. The test set accommodates all standard test configurations, including

UST-R, UST-B, UST-RB, GST-GND, GSTg-R, GSTg-B and GSTg-RB, with three measurement inputs. The CDAX 655 is supplied with software that provides a user interface and has integrated data logging facilities. Megger www.megger.com T: 01304 502 101

Two new instruments have been added to Yokogawa’s ScopeCorder family of portable multi-channel data

acquisition

recorders. The new DL850E and DL850EV (Vehicle Edition) ScopeCorders incorpo- rate a number of new features to allow engi- neers to measure and analyse signals in real time and to speed up development and fault finding in areas such as power elec- tronics, mechatronics and transportation. Along with the regular feature of the ScopeCorder

family the new DL850E

instruments also offer the /G5 option for real

time measurement of electrical

power as well as the existing /G3 option for real time mathematical computations and digital filtering, and the /G2 option for user defined computations.

With the /G5 electrical power option,

trend calculations such as active power, power factor, integrated power and harmon- ics can be carried out at data update rates up to 100kS/s using a dedicated digital sig- nal processor (DSP) that is able to calculate

16

and display up to 126 types of electrical power related parameters in real time. The DL850E combines features from a digital oscilloscope and a multi-channel data acquisition recorder. It can capture and analyse both transient events and trends over time periods from milliseconds up to 200 days, storing acquired data in the large acquisition memory, the internal hard disk and/or an external PC hard disk. Flexible modular inputs enable the DL850E to combine measurements of electrical

signals, physical parameters

from sensors, and data from CAN/LIN ser- ial buses. A choice of 17 input modules allows the instrument to be configured up to a maximum of 128 channels, giving engineers a thorough insight into any application by synchronising the mea- surement of different types of electrical and physical signals. A DC power option allows the DL850EV to be used in a vehicle, with power being supplied by the vehicle’s DC battery. The DC power option

allows AC and DC

power supplies to be used together to ensure a highly reliable power source. If the AC power goes down, the DL850V instantly switches to a DC input without interrupting the measurement. Yokogawa Test & Measurement www.tmi.yokogawa.com T: +31 088 464 1811 Enter 207

work around high energy equip- ment. They are Torture Tested to the highest arc blast test ratings and, when properly installed (which takes five minutes or less), maintain a panel arc test rating of up to 63kA.

More than 99% of all arc flash incidents occur when a panel door is open, exposing workers to potentially lethal amounts of energy. The new Fluke ClirVu CV Series IR Windows eliminates the need to open the panel door to take infrared camera readings. The ClirVu CV Series offers protection for the electricians, engineers and inspectors who

Once installed, there’s no need to power down or remove panels - inspections can be conducted quickly, easily, and most impor- tantly, safely - often with little, if any, personal protective equipment. The hinged cover is easily

inspections. It also protects the window from accidental exte- rior impact. Fluke www.fluke.co.uk/irwindows T: 0207 942 0700

Seaward’s new Apollo 500 provides elec- trical appliance safety testing alongside test data handling capabilities. The new compact and lightweight unit incorpo- rates all the recommended safety tests for workplace appliances in line with the IET 4th Edition Code of Practice, including point to point testing of fixed equipment and the testing of 3-phase devices and RCDs. The Apollo 500 includes a colour display and menu-based operating system plus a built-

in risk assessment tool which aids the user in determining the appropriate re-test periods. With both battery and mains power operation as standard, alongside fast start-up and power

saving features, the new instrument is particularly suitable for high volume PAT applications. The Apollo 500 also incorporates data handling features that include an internal memory for up to 10,000 test records, USB upload and download to PATGuard 3 soft- ware, and remote data transfer to PCs via smartphones using Bluetooth connectivity. Compatibility with Seaward’s PATGuard 3 software also means that complete test

records can be easily and securely managed on a PC, with the fast production of reports, test certificates and client invoices. Seaward’s user test option also enables those with a responsibility for non-electrical assets, such as fire extinguishers or ladders, to create customised inspection and test sequences and record results for complete traceability.
