BLOOD SCIENCES LABORATORY: Haematology


Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute teaching hospital providing a comprehensive range of acute and secondary services to almost 600,000 people in the Hull and East Yorkshire area. The Hull and East Yorkshire Pathology Service provides a service for patients throughout Hull and East Yorkshire. We have an annual budget of £11.5 million and employ 300 staff. The main Blood Sciences, Microbiology and Cellular Pathology laboratories are based at Hull Royal Infirmary with a smaller laboratory at Castle Hill Hospital.


Hull Royal Infirmary is situated 10 minutes walk from the City Centre. Hull is a modern city with a number of new developments including the Marina and The Deep. It has links with Europe via the ferry and the nearby airports, Humberside International Airport and Robin Hood Airport, along with good rail and motorway links. There is easy access to sites of outstanding natural beauty, the Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Wolds, North Yorkshires Moors and North East Coastline. It offers affordable housing with good leisure facilities. The historic towns of Beverley, York and Lincoln are close, making commuting an inviting option.


CHIEF BMS BLOOD SCIENCES (HAEMATOLOGY)


Band 8a, Full time 37.5 hrs (£39,239 – £47,088)


Applications are invited for the post of Chief BMS Haematology to join the team in Blood Sciences.


The Blood Sciences department at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust encompasses two laboratory facilities that are well equipped to cover a comprehensive range of analytical platforms in Haematology, Immunology and Biochemistry. The management of Blood Sciences is carried out by a team of Chief Biomedical Scientists in Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry, Immunology and Point of Care Testing.


Applicants must have HCPC registration with FIBMS or equivalent and have a proven track record of working at an advanced level in Haematology. The post holder must have in-depth scientific and clinical knowledge of Haematology practice and will be responsible, in collaboration with the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Lead, for the maintenance and development of the service. This is a challenging post for an enthusiastic, well motivated, forward thinking individual. The post offers a great opportunity for an experienced senior biomedical scientist to take on a demanding role in both the technical and quality management aspects of Haematology laboratory practice. Engagement in the development and management of the Blood Sciences Department and a commitment to our multidisciplinary ethos will be a necessary requirement of this role. The post holder will be required to take part in the Duty Manager on call rota.

in Blood Transfusion Band 8a: £45,518 to £53,367 + High Cost Area allowance


Applications are invited from enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists with knowledge and expertise in the fi eld of Haemoglobinopathy for the Chief BMS post for the Red Cell Laboratory Service at Barts Health NHS Trust.


The Haemoglobinopathy service is based at the Royal London site and covers the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham and Waltham Forest which covers a population of over 1 million.


We are a busy department looking for an enthusiastic person to lead this team. We currently screen around 45000 Haemoglobinopathy and 180000 HbA1C samples a year, and confirm all our abnormal haemoglobinopathies by molecular analysis. We are looking for someone to develop this service further.

Technical Support Specialist


Established over 20 years and based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, BHR Pharmaceuticals Ltd specialises in Point-of-Care Medical Diagnostics in seven major fields – allergy, cardiovascular, diabetes, female health, gastrointestinal, haematology and urinalysis.


BHR works with the World’s leading diagnostic manufacturers to bring quality products to the UK market. BHR ensures customers are able to use our products to maximum effectiveness by providing technical support through training in the use of the products, quality control procedures and quality assurance schemes.


An opportunity has arisen for a Technical Support Specialist to provide a high level of support to our customers and field- based staff.


Using your knowledge and experience, you will be responsible for first line telephone support to investigate and resolve customer technical queries, in close liaison with our Customer Services Team and field-based staff.


You may be required to travel to customer sites at short notice. You will have an HND or equivalent in a relevant biomedical science.


You must be registered with the HCPC and be able to produce evidence of CPD participation.


Experience in the Medical Diagnostics industry is desirable. Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies such as UKAS would be advantageous.


An excellent command of both written and verbal English is essential.
