MEMBERSHIP ROUND-UP Portfolio Training Day: 18 or 19 December 2013


Two portfolio training days have been scheduled for 18 and 19 December. The programme on each day will commence at 10.00 am and conclude at 4.00 pm; it will cover the necessary knowledge and skills required to become a registration portfolio verifier and/or specialist portfolio examiner, and will also provide the opportunity for interactive discussion.


To become a registration portfolio verifier you will need to satisfy the following criteria:  Current membership of the IBMS in the class of Licentiate, Member or Fellow. Associate members are not eligible


 HCPC-registered (or equivalent registration authority for non-UK members)


 Currently practising in an Institute- approved training laboratory with a minimum of four years’ post-registration experience as a registered practitioner


 Actively participating in the Institute’s CPD scheme.


To become a specialist portfolio examiner you will need to satisfy the following criteria:  Member or Fellow of the IBMS with a minimum qualification at academic level 7 (level 11 in Scotland), such as MSc, MPhil, HSD


 HCPC-registered (or equivalent registration authority for non-UK members)


 Currently practising in an Institute- approved training laboratory with a minimum of four years’ post-registration experience


 Actively participating in the Institute’s CPD scheme or equivalent (submission of overview of past two years’ CPD required)


 Specialist-level experience in named discipline/disciplines.

The 2014 examinations for the Advanced Specialist Diploma in Cervical Cytology and the Diploma of Expert Practice in Non-Gynaecological Cytology will be held at the East Pennine Cytology Training Centre, Leeds.


All other examinations will be held at the University of Westminster and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. examination

If you meet the necessary criteria, wish to be involved and can commit to undertake at least one portfolio verification/examination per year then this course is for you. Every portfolio verification/examination you undertake provides CPD opportunities. Becoming involved will develop your own training skills and will in turn support your department. In addition, the training day will be credited for CPD.


The training days will be held at the Institute of Biomedical Science, 12 Coldbath Square, London EC1R 5HL. Please reply to registration@ibms.org confirming attendance on your chosen day and submit the necessary application form for registration verifier and/or specialist examiner (available on the IBMS website). Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
