The complete serology solution on a single automated platform
For over 25 years Roche has invested in the research and development of serology analysers and assays so that, today, they offer one of the most comprehensive infectious disease assay portfolios available on a single automated platform. Bringing you the flexibility, speed and performance you require, more and more laboratories in the UK now rely on Roche for their complete serology solution.
Faster reporting of results Chris Gaskin, Blood Sciences Laboratory Manager for the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, explains how the complete Roche serology solution has helped to provide faster results and an improved serology service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
“As a transplant centre, we oſten need to perform specific urgent tests on donors and recipients,” he comments. “Previously, if this was required out of hours, the transplant team would need to call in a microbiologist, which could cause a delay. Now, with all the serology assays on our main biochemistry platform, these important tests are available around the clock and we can offer the transplant team a 24/7 service.”
“In addition, with many serology assays, the result of one test may require other tests to be performed,” he continues.

“In the past, such reflex testing would mean we would have to retrieve the patient sample in order to perform the additional assays required, oſten on a separate platform, which was costly in terms of reagents, equipment and staff time. Now, with all of our serology assays on one platform, we are able to have real-time reflex testing. All of the results are available more quickly and at the same time.”
Improved turnaround times The Serology Laboratory at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle has also been able to provide faster results since they adopted the Roche serology assays.

Jayne Harwood, Serology Team Manager for the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, comments,“We now have 15 serology assays on our Roche track platform, performing around 1500 assays per week. This has helped us to improve our turnaround times significantly and we can now report negative results on the same day. Due to the automation and high performance of the assays, the results are extremely reproducible, which inspires confidence. The clinicians have faster results and it is easier to process urgent samples when required.”
