Eat out – and help the homeless


Restaurant reviews in this issue feature some of the top restaurants in and around the Barbican which also contribute to the StreetSmart charity over the festive season. The editor tries two each for dinner and lunch while Franco Barone covers one for a Saturday brunch.

hose who have been reading Barbican Life for the past few years may be aware of London charity StreetSmart which


generates its charitable income by asking restaurant goers to contribute £1 added to their bills over the November and December months. With the average meal for two at a good restaurant these days costing over £100 this is hardly an even noticeable addition – and you have the advantage of knowing that ALL the contributions (last year over £800,000 was raised) go to local homeless charities, as StreetSmart’s administration expenses are fully
