Bumotec Machining Technology Makes a
BIG IMPACT on small parts manufacturing
Since its establishment in 1970 as a
manufacturer of high-precision special-purpose machine tools to the European watch-making industry, Switzerland-based Bumotec has continually expanded and developed its range
of machines so that today the company enjoys a global lead in the machining of highly-accurate ‘micro’ parts in industry sectors including
computer, medical and electronics in addition to watchmaking and jewellery.
The just-announced s100multi transfer machining centre — available from the Starrag Group which acquired the company in 2012 — epitomises the Bumotec mantra of fast and cost-effective machining of small parts, up to 80 mm by 80 mm by 80 mm in the case of the s100multi.
With linear motors in all axes to ensure maximum precision and repeatability, plus the resultant benefits of a machine with no hydraulic components (including less heat and improved accuracy through more precise control), the s100multi has a high-speed 60,000 revs/min spindle and offers fast acceleration of 27 m/sec plus a cut-to-cut time of less than 0.5 second. The combination of high dynamics and precision results in an exceptional path- following accuracy, allowing the machine to mill any precise shape at high speed.
