12 MONTHS LATER...

Reality Tours and Travel won in the Best for Poverty Reduction category last year, as well as being the overall winner. Here, marketing manager Adina Goerke describes the impact the win has had on the business:

“Reality Tours and Travel has conducted the well-known Dharavi Slum Tour since 2006 and our various city and village tours since 2009. To date, we have taught 500 children English at local schools, trained 13 local women in the unique teaching methods of Muktangan and empowered 400 young students through English, soft skills and computer classes as part of our Youth Empowerment Program. The major change we experienced

Dikwella, Sri Lanka

after receiving the 2012 Overall Award was that we were encouraged to expand our social business and spread the word about our initiatives and unique business/NGO model. Our founder Chris Way spent three months in Manila, Philippines, helping a local tour operator,

Smokey Tours, improve their model of slum tours with a community benefit in their area. We also plan to offer our first multi-day tour this year. Rajasthan Unlimited is a 13-day trip from Mumbai to Delhi through Rajasthan, discovering the “land of kings” by plane, train, car,

rickshaw and even camel. During the trip, we will stick to our motto “see the real India” and provide adventures and experiences that travellers couldn’t unravel on their own. We are also working on a week-long trip to Kerala and have more expansion plans.”
