Category sponsor: Lithuania Tourism Office Judges’ comments “The photography category was challenging but several photographers rose to the occasion to produce images showing different aspects of responsible travel and the interaction between local and visiting people. There was no single winner because it was impossible to find a picture that said it all; therefore we awarded highly commended to three images with a selection of different messages: two that address the concept of interaction with people and learning (also in relation to socio-economic impacts), and one other that focuses on the environment.
Highly commended n Pranpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, taken by Tanushree Sing The picture shows the interaction between the host community member and a guest – the potter who is semi-literate interacting on equal terms
with the guest who is educated and from France, and has travelled all the way to India. Both interact with mutual respect to gain from each other.
n El Nido, Palawan, Philippines, taken by Macy Anonuevo The beach clean-up crew consisted of volunteer staff from El Nido Resorts. These staff members volunteered their off-duty hours to clean up El Nido's beaches during Earth Day 2013 because they believe that they need to keep El Nido clean, not just for their jobs but for themselves as well.
n Dikwella, Sri Lanka, taken by Chris Willan Dikwella is famous for traditional Beeralu Bobbin lace-making. A lace-making centre was set up in Dikwella in 2008. The project protects the livelihoods of the traditional lace-makers, trains unemployed women in lace-making skills and provides marketing support to revive a disappearing and dying craft.
