in Olympic celebration The Colonial Skating Club from the Flyers
Skate Zone in Philadelphia participated in the 100 Days Out to Sochi celebration in Times Square on Oct. 29, 2013. The event, hosted by the Unit- ed States Olympic Committee, featured all of the Olympic Winter sports. A 30-by-60-foot synthetic ice rink was constructed at 47th Street and Broad- way for fi gure skating, speedskating and hockey demonstrations. Eight skaters from the Colonial Skating Club
were chosen to perform on the ice based on their positive attitudes at the rink as well as skating abil- ity. They skated two- and three-minute programs, including one with the Rocky movie theme that paid homage to the team’s hometown. “Our girls adjusted to the synthetic ice quickly
and skated beautifully,” Amber Hartman, skating director at the Flyers Skate Zone, said. “Their faces were fi lled with amazement at the nature of the event. When they came off the ice, we all hugged and I even cried. I was just so proud.” The group also participated in the other
winter sports demonstrations, including curling; walked through a scaled-down version of the Olympic Village; and met Olympic champions Sar- ah Hughes and Evan Lysacek.
Olympic pairs skater Mark Ladwig helped youngsters with their skating skills at the Destina- tion Sochi SkateFest in Jacksonville, Fla., on Nov. 7. In Jack- sonville, 130 skaters took part in the fun at the Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex. Cast members from the Disson Skating show in town that weekend skated with the area youngsters, off ering help along the way.

is had his ring cast from Alaskan gold nuggets. Both rings were passed among the guests in lace bags knit from quiviut yarn (musk ox fur). Lewis, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, is a nurse at Nemours du-
Pont Hospital for Children, while Burbank works at Vanguard Mutual Funds. They live in a remodeled century-old townhouse in the Philadelphia suburb of Manayunk, Pa.
