Sources of Gratitude

I
N THE RETAIL RUSH TO LEAP FROM HALLOWEEN TO CHRISTMAS, IT SEEMS OUR UNIQUE Thanksgiving holiday is overlooked. I invite you to take a moment to consider some reasons for gratitude. This has been a year of challenge for many in our community. Some
of us have suffered signifi cant changes to our physical selves and the fu- ture looks completely different from anything we could have imagined. Some of us have embarked on a new professional path. A new project,
new business or a different fork in the career path may be presenting new risks and potentially new rewards. Again, the future looks different than we could have imagined. Many of us have lost dear ones this year and our future without them
has holes in it. In all these challenges, is there a reason for gratitude? Physical challenges allow us to be thankful for the outpouring of love
and generosity from friends, acquaintances and even strangers. There can be gratitude for those to rush to aid and for those who stand steadfast through the long haul of healing, recovery or adjustment to new realities. New professional challenges bring to mind the skills others have taught
us. Are there teachers, mentors or some really grumpy former bosses who have helped us learn from our mistakes? Does the loss of a loved one bring to mind many memories of time
together? Can we fi nd gratitude for memories of fun and laughter, remem- bering the time you may have shared the “uh-oh-we’re-in-trouble-now” look across a room, and the times you were just proud to know them? Thanks for pausing a moment to read this Thanksgiving letter. I hope
it brings to mind many things that are or have been challenges, but that are also unexpected sources of gratitude. You are among the many things for which I am grateful. Happy
Thanksgiving.
