The historic Dennis Ranch and Cattle Company in Oscar, Okla., is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association’s Ranching Heritage and Breeders Program. Dennis received the AQHA Legacy Award in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue; chil- dren; grandchildren; and numerous relatives.
Elizabeth Ellen Hildebrand Horwood, 79, of Sterling City, died Sept. 7. She was born on May 21, 1934, and
is a descendent of the pioneer ranching family H.L. and Fay Foster Hildebrand. Elizabeth attended Southern Methodist University, where she met her husband Stan Horwood. She served as Concho Valley Walk to Emmaus lay director and as board member of the Methodist Mis- sion Home and Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers As- sociation Foundation, as well as president of the Texas Cattle Women’s Association. She is survived by her hus- band; their daughter and sons and spouses; and numer- ous grandchildren and other relatives. Bonnie Bell Allen, 58, of Lufkin, died Sept. 8. She was born Aug. 23, 1955, in Lufkin, to Jim Gordon and
Elise Bell. She is survived by her husband, Joe Ed Allen; parents; daughters and grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Memorials may be made to Old Redtown School Building, c/o JoAnn Denby, P.O. Box 74, Pollok, Texas, 75969, or to a charity of your choice.
Former TSCRA Special Ranger Elzie Ware, 90, of Jew- ett, died Sept. 20. He served as a special ranger from
1963 to 1994 in what is now District 21 in East Texas. His son Robert is a TSCRA market inspector. Ware married Georgia Nell Walker on April 27, 1943, and they shared more than 70 years together. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 511th Airborne Division during World War II. He was a former mayor of the City of Jew- ett and a Leon County deputy sheriff in the early 1960s. He is survived by his wife; a daughter and son, grand- children and numerous other relatives and friends.
