If Carlsberg Did Cities...


Ranked as the globe’s most liveable city 2013, Copenhagen boasts world-class cuisine, culture and of course, Carlsberg. Waterfront took a look around


W


ith Norwegian Air Shuttle operating a new route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, it was time to sample


what this vibrant and historic city has to offer. We chose to stay in the four-star Hotel 71 right


on the riverside in Nyhaven, the bustling and charming 17th century harbour district, lined


with the colourful façades of town houses, cafés, bars and restaurants. Hotel 71 offered bed and breakfast


accommodation in a loft suite duplex, housed in a converted dockside warehouse overlooking the Copenhagen port and five minutes walk away from one of the city’s biggest tourist draws, the famous bronze ‘little mermaid’ statue inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. Copenhagen is well set up for tourists and travel


around the city is a breeze, whether by metro, train, bus or, if your legs are up to it, bicycle. It is one of the most cycle-friendly cities in the world, with an enviable network of tracks and lanes. After a quick refresh at our hotel we headed off


for our first stop – a boat tour. With umbrellas in hand just in case, we boarded an open-topped long boat which took us around the city, past the old submarine warehouses and on to the cultured canals where house boats are popular. It’s a great ‘quick fix’ way to take in many of the sights. Copenhagen is firmly set on the gastronomic
