Tucker Durkin

Hamilton Nationals defenseman lets excitement build before a game

Who is your favorite athlete? Dirk Nowitzki. He is so versatile for a 7-foot NBA player. His unorthodox style of play is so much fun to watch.

What’s one thing you can’t live without? Hot sauce. I put it on pretty much everything I eat. I think my taste buds are fried from it, though.

Where did you go on your last vacation?

Last big one was to London. My two aunts took me and my friend Mike Noone. It was an unreal vacation, although we did run into a naked biker parade one of our last days there.

What’s one thing lacrosse really needs?

A 60-second shot clock at all levels.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I really wanted to be in the NBA. I was obsessed with watching games and following stats.

Do you have any pregame rituals? I try to harness my excitement. I like to let it build. I like to read over the scouting report and notes I write for myself.

What was your favorite class in college? A class I took sophomore year, Conversations with the Earth. It was a really interesting class and literally half my team was in it at Johns Hopkins.

What is your day job? I am working at Exelon in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. I work in corporate security as an intelligence analyst.

Overtime (from Team STX goalie Dana Cahill) What is the best piece of advice that helped you on the field? Who gave it to you? “Success is all mental. Anyone can be as good as they want to be.

You just have to put the time in and believe it. It’s all between the ears.” — Don Durkin Jr. (my dad)

Double Overtime (from Ryan Burgess, Atlanta) If you were goalie for a game, do you think you would win? Yes, I would win. I see myself playing like a hybrid of Niko Amato, Pierce Bassett and Brett Queener. I’ve been pretty lucky to have these three studs behind me in high school, college and the MLL.
