Diamond Pushup
• Put your hands close together in a diamond shape.
• This position works your triceps better than you would with a wider hand position.
Gym Rat • Troy Dennis DETROIT MERCY
The Titans’ senior midfielder spent a lot of time in pushup position as a sophomore in 2011-12, crushing nearly 60,000 reps in a six-month span to win a team-wide competition. Here are a couple of spins on the classic down-up pushup.
The Web
• Start in a pushup position with 3 cones (not pictured) in front of you.
• A training partner holds the web for resistance, while you hold your stick. Have your training partner call out a number between 1 and 3, corresponding to a cone.
• Leap up and run toward your cone. Break your steps down and be under control.
• Retreat, and return to your starting position. Repeat.
• Concentration is a factor — you have to think and act in an instant. It’s good training for a second slide, when you have to get back in the hole and find somebody.
• Keep your butt down. Go straight down and come back up. Repeat.
