“We are expanding our Nelson ryegrass acreage this year because of the great results we had this past year. Production and quality were great and with its upright growth, it allows sunlight to reach our warm season grasses and come on without us missing a beat on continuous forage production.
With our Charolais and Angus seed stock business, we run a high intensity, short duration grazing rotational program. Nelson took the grazing pressure and traffic better than any ryegrass we have ever used and kept on producing. We also liked the wide leaves and rust resistance which helped our overall production.”
Glynn Gibson - Tiller, Arkansas
“In the past I have planted Gulf and Jumbo but since they didn’t work, this year I planted 100 acres of Nelson and 100 acres of Prine. Prine did not or could not keep up with Nelson. Nelson ryegrass grew off fast, had a wider leaf, lasted longer and came back strong.
My cows would eat Nelson down and it would come right back. In fact Nelson lasted till last week, which was the 2nd week of June, and Prine had dried up the first of May.
This coming season I will be planting 200 acres of Nelson ryegrass. You can’t beat Nelson. It’s great.”

“After this year, no more Gulf ryegrass for me, my Nelson was wonderful. We started grazing it 4 – 5 weeks after planting, it bounced back really fast after each grazing and we made 7,000 pounds of hay per acre.
I have never seen anything grow like Nelson, it is like a miracle grass with leaves as wide as sorghum. Even my neighbors say it was the best ryegrass patch they have ever seen. Me too.”

“I cut and bale the demonstration plots for Alex Lewis’ annual ‘Forage and Cattle Field Day’. This year there were seven varieties planted: Big Boss, Jackson, Herdsmen, Marshall, Jumbo, Nelson and Gulf. Of these, I chose Nelson Tetraploid as #1 over the other six because of it’s performance and that it was still green while the others were drying down.
Due to this first hand experience with Nelson, I will be planting Nelson Tetrapoid this year.”
Sonny Holland Lucedale, Mississippi
“...20% more grass than TAMTBO.”
“This year I tried Nelson ryegrass and really liked what I saw. It has a broader leaf and gave us at least 20% more grass than TAMTBO.
Sometimes we abuse the ryegrass and Nelson took this abuse and bounced back even with the heavy wet soil around here. Nelson ryegrass took it all well.
This fall I will be planting more Nelson and Marshall ryegrasses.”
