We offer our prayers to his fam- ily, and we will continue to honor Clay by remembering the incredible legacy he has left behind.” Birdwell was born Dec. 11, 1953.
He grew up in Lubbock, graduat- ing from Coronado High School in 1972. He attended Texas Christian University and then transferred to Texas Tech, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business in 1976. In 1981, he married Martha Behner Igo. Birdwell served as president of
Great Plains Cattle Feeders, Hip O Cattle Co. and Birdwell Cattle Co., and on the board of directors for Texas Cattle Feeders, Texas Beef Council and the National Cattle- man’s Beef Association. He served on the executive committees of Na- tional Finance Credit Corporation and the Texas Livestock Marketing Association. Birdwell is predeceased by his
father, John E. Birdwell, a past presi- dent of TSCRA, and his mother, Ge- nene Bateman Birdwell. He is sur- vived by his wife, Martha; 3 sons, Grant and wife Carlye Birdwell of Austin; Marcus Birdwell of Austin; Blake and wife Elaine Birdwell of Muleshoe; and daughter Amanda and husband Brooks Hodges of Guthrie; 4 grandchildren; 2 broth- ers; and numerous other relatives.
