Noritake Itron has employed it’s ultra- fine photo-lithographic production process to create a new range of EMI shield windows for TFT and other display apertures. This process produces an aluminium mesh of 300um pitch and 10um line width covered by a 5um ITO coating and black contrast enhancement layer. Four sizes supporting 4.3”, 5.7”, 7” and 15” TFTs are now available using 0.7mm glass substrates with conductive adhesive tape applied to order. www.noritake-itron.com

Farnell element14 is now stocking the two new Hercules LaunchPad development kits from Texas Instruments. The new platforms have been created to allow design engineers to explore the TI Hercules Safety MCUs and evaluate the MCUs safety features specifically around the IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 functional safety standards. The development kits deliver scalable performance, connectivity, memory and safety features for the TMS570 and RM4x series of ARM Cortex based MCUs. www.element14.com

Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. is to acquire Volterra Semiconductor Corp. Volterra specialises in high- current, high-performance, and high-density power management solutions. The company develops highly integrated solutions primarily for the enterprise, cloud computing, communications, and networking. www.maximintegrated.com

Panasonic has released a new MINAS LIQI AC Servo Drive that is an easy to use pulse position control based servo drive system; offering motor sizes from 50W up to 1kW. www.panasonic-electric-

The Micro|Nano|MEMS 2013 event, showcasing micro, precision, mems and nano manufacturing technologies is taking place on the 25th and 26th September 2013 at the NEC, Birmingham. This free-to-attend exhibition features live machine demonstra- tions allowing visitors to compare and contrast solutions in a real world environment.

The show also features a host of exhibitors covering the full spec- trum of micro, precision, MEMS and nano manufacturing solutions including: precision diamond machining, micro milling, grind- ing machines, micro injection moulding, laser micro machining, photo etching, metrology and test equipment; micro-fluidics fabri- cation and also assembly and testing equipment.

Confirmed exhibitors include: Accumold, Alicona UK Ltd, Etch Tech Ltd, Laser Micromachining Limited, Laser Lines Ltd, Lasea SA, iX-Factory GmbH, CDA GmbH, Keyence, TDC Corporation and Beckett MIM Ltd.

The event also features an

extensive, world-class conference and seminar programme, exploring the impact, developments and applications in a range of micro manufacturing technologies. Confirmed speakers include Professor Yi Qin of Strathclyde University who will discuss micro- forming technology; Dr Russell Torah of the University of Southampton who will explore micro fabrication production tech- nology for MEMS on new, emerging smart textiles as well as Nadeem Rizvi from Laser Micromachining, who will share his expertise on the practicalities of micromachining with lasers. Visitors will also benefit from an exciting event co-location, providing easy access to nearby shows: Sensors & Instrumentation 2013, The Machine Building Show 2013, TCT Live and Mediplas. Due to the significant overlap in technology usage within these sectors, more visitors than ever are expected to attend the UK’s only event of this kind. This international forum for micro manufacturing is being organised by Datateam Business Media Ltd and is being supported by respected media publications including: CMM, Electronics and CIE as well as industry organisa- tions MANCEF and AILU. Vision system delivers speed & efficiency

A new vision system from Omron features high-speed image bus, four-core processing, a new vision algorithm and fast EtherCAT com- munications. This system is capa- ble of providing fast efficient operation from image capture to data output. As a result the new vision systems are ideal for PLCs, motion controllers and robotic control systems, and are well suited for applications in high- speed manufacturing machines of all types.

Also, the systems are fully

compatible with the company’s Sysmac Studio Automation soft- ware, so in effect only one software package is needed to set up all of the major components used in an automation system. As a result this can reduce the amount of work involved in machine design. The software environment can be used to set up, debug and simu- late all slave devices connected via EtherCAT, including not only vision and other sensing elements, but also motion controllers, logic devices and drives.

The system incorporates the company’s Shape Search III vision algorithm in the MCU. In effect, this is potentially up to nine times faster when carrying out searches than conventional algorithms. Omron www.industrial.omron.eu

In brief...

Teseq is now offering a 100A, 3- phase burst pulse coupling/decou- pling network (CDN) designed for electrical fast transient (EFT) or burst testing. The new manual CDN 3083-B100 is ideal for use in the power and telecom industries. www.teseq.com

A range of new & improved desk- top, instrument and metal cases has been launched by Camden- Boss that are ideal for use in a wide range of applications. These cases are manufactured in the UK and offer facilities such as improved push-fit ¼-turn assembly bolts and in-house customisation. www.camdenboss.com

AVX Corporation has introduced its new TransFeed Automotive Series, which combines the company’s TransGuard Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) and its Feedthru Capacitors in a single chip. This mix has the potential to offer overvoltage circuit protection and EMI reduction over a much broader range of frequencies. www.avx.com

A new crimping tool has been released by Weidmüller. The PZ6 Roto L features a fixed crimp insert and can reduce the need for other tools. This is possible because the tool allows the crimping of lines and wire ferrules (with and without plastic collars) for the entire cross- section range from 0.14 to 6.0 mm² (AWG 24–10), without the need for any other tools. www.weidmuller.co.uk

Bulgin has launched 4, 6 and 8 pole versions of its PX0777 environmentally-sealed in-line cable - cable joiners extending robust environmental protection to a wider range of applications and offering rapid connection of multi core cables. www.bulgin.com
