SoC furthers visual and fanless design

A new low-power Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) has been released by AMD. The new GX-210JA APU uses one-third less energy than the previous generation whilst offering great graphics capabilities. At only 6watts maximum thermal design power (TDP), and approximately 3watts expected average power, this devices enables additional fanless designs for a variety of applications rang- ing from industrial controls and automa- tion, digital gaming, communications infrastructure and visual embedded products including thin client, digital signage and medical imaging. The advance of APU processor design, the Surround Computing era, and The Internet of Things has created the demand for embedded devices that are low power but also offer excellent compute and graphics performance," said Arun Iyengar, Vice President and General Manager, AMD Embedded Systems. "AMD Embedded G-Series SOC products meet these requirements for compute, graphics and I/O integration, resulting in fewer board components, low-power use, and reduced complexity and cost. “The new GX-210JA operates at an average of approximately 3watts, enabling a new generation of fanless designs for content-rich, multimedia and traditional workload processing." MicroTCA rack system offering high availability

accommodate 12 single mid-size AdvancedMC modules, two single full-size MicroTCA carrier hubs and two single power mod- ules up to 12HP in width for N+1 redundant operation.

Foremost Electronics is now stocking the Schroff 4U high 19” MicroTCA rack system. This solution features thermal management and redun- dancy capability that is necessary for high system availability in limited spaces.

As this system is intended pri- marily for telecoms applications, the new enclosure is designed to

The system meets the PICMG MTCA.0 R1.0 base specification and is equipped with a backplane which employs dual-star topology for interconnections between the slots allowing implementation of a fully redundant system. Cooling redundancy is provided by two rear-mounted hot-swap fan modules, each fitted with two tem- perature controlled fan modules

and an EMMC cooling unit manager. Airflow is from front to rear and the air inlet filter can be replaced from the front of the unit. Housing is a 296mm deep EMC shielded steel case with 19” rack- mounting brackets, that is finished in RAL9005 black powder coated- paint and is supplied with guide rails for vertical mounting of PCBs within the card cage. Typical applications include IT, medical and industrial computer systems offering an enclosure with shielding and cooling. Foremost Electronics www.4most.co.uk

GNSS receiver module combing GPS and GLONASS

Solid State Supplies is now stock- ing the L76 global navigation satellite system (GNSS) module from Quectel. This L76 device measures in at 10.1mm by 9.7mm by 2.5mm and is a compact single receiver module, which supports both GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation systems.

The module supports open service L1 band (1575.42MHz) reception capability with 33 tracking channels, 99 acquisition channels, and 210 PRN channels.

The module is capable of ultra low-power tracking (18mA) and acquisition (25mA)

Up scaled and up scoped assembly

At this site, the company now has 12 dedicated workstations and shelving for 2,800 compo- nent parts.

TTI, Inc. has significantly increased both the scale and scope of its European connector assembly service. First opened in 2010 to service the European defence and hi-rel markets, the facility – based at the company’s European Distribution Centre in Gerlinden, near Munich, Germany – has more than dou- bled in size and can now produce seven different connector styles and their many variants.

“Our QPL-approved facility is set up to ensure that we always hold stocks of piece parts so we can react very quickly, and we have no MOQs,” said Thilo Pelosato, Director of Marketing, Europe - Military, Aero and Space TTI, Inc.

“Another key benefit we offer is that we also provide a full range of complementary products - adapters/backshells, moulded parts, adhesives, marker sleeves, tubes, wire and cable and various circuit protection elements, so customers can find everything they need from one source.” TTI Inc. www.ttieurope.com

of any combination of GPS and GLONASS signals.

Using GPS in conjunction with GLONASS typically doubles the number of visible satellites compared to GPS alone, reducing the time to first fix.

The coupling of the systems also increases navigation and positioning accuracy, especially when driving in dense urban environments. It can identify the users horizontal location to within 2.5 metres circular error probability (CEP), their velocity to within 0.1 metres per second, and timing to 10 nanoseconds. The device features advanced

assisted GPS (AGPS) called EASY (Embedded Assist System) which provides self-generated orbit pre- diction for instant positioning fix. The module also incorporates AlwaysLocateE284A2 technol- ogy, which automatically adjusts the satellite signal receiving modes according to the user E28099s state for enhanced navigation, while reducing the battery power of the system. An additional embedded logger function is integrated into the device that allows the L76 to log position information. Solid State Supplies www.sssplc.com

Mobile power banks & solar USB chargers for standard |USB outlet Powersolve Electronics

has launched a new range of mobile power bank products and solar USB chargers for mobile phones, GPS, MP3 players, tablet PC’s, digital cameras; in fact almost any- thing that can be charged by a standard 5V USB outlet.

The company advises that all of its products

are fully tested for battery capac- ity, conversion efficiency and battery protection circuits. It also advises that all battery ratings quoted are the ‘real’ capacity of batteries fitted. The devices

carry a full 1 year warranty against any faults or damage under normal operation. Each battery pack consists of a con- nector kit which will be suitable for most mobile smart phones. In addition to the battery packs

the company also offer a new range of AC-DC USB chargers from 5W to 15W with single and dual 5V 1A and 2.1A USB outputs. Powersolve www.powersolve.co.uk
