show preview Three new machines from Engel
Hall 15/B42 Engel will show three new machines at the show. The display will be headed up by its first all-electric tie-barless machine design. It will also launch a 650 tonne hybrid packaging machine with a novel flywheel energy recovery system and demonstrate a new hybrid version of its Duo two-paten model. Engel has sold more than 60,000 tie-barless machines to date but until now offered the technology only in hydraulic and hybrid versions. The all-electric e-Motion 30TL will be demonstrated in a 30 tonne version, with the range
extending to at least 80 tonnes. The full servoelec- tric machine offers an 800 mm/s injection speed. At the show it
will be producing 60-pin electronic board-to-board connectors with a 0.5mm pin spacing on a 16-cavity mould supplied by Korean company CNplus. l The e-Speed 650 machine is a new addition at the top end of Engel’s packaging machin- ery line. The 650 tonne moulder is a hybrid design with a new energy saving kinetic drive. This employs a
flywheel mounted within the machine frame to store energy recovered during the braking part of the clamping cycle. Engel says the technology means the e-Speed 650 can avoid power peaks, allowing it to run on a relatively low and constant connected load. l The latest addition to the company’s Duo two-platen

machine range is a hybrid drive e-Duo, which will be demonstrated in a 700 tonne version. The new machine uses a full electric injection unit and electrically driven clamp movement while a small servo hydraulic system powers final clamping force applica- tion and core pulling. ❙

Lightweight options from KraussMaffei
Hall 15/B27 Lightweight part production will be a key theme of the KraussMaffei display, headed up by moulding and over- moulding of parts using continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic sheets. The FiberForm process will be demonstrated on a 300 tonne CX series injection machine equipped with a

platen-mounted IR 300 R233 S/K robot, which takes the pre-warmed composites sheets and inserts them in the mould where they are formed and overmoulded. The robot then removes the finished parts. l KraussMaffei will also demonstrate its CellForm moulding system. ❙
