Hall 05/C21 BASF, which recently reorgan- ised and placed all its downstream polymer activities into the newly created €1.6bn Performance Materials division, will be showing its latest material introductions and applications. Two new grades have been


added to the Ultradur HR line of hydrolysis resistant PBT’s for demanding applications such as electronic and electrical connectors and housings for the automotive industry. Ultradur B4450 G5 HR combines hydrolysis resistance with integrated flame retardance, high tracking resistance and low smoke density. It is targeted at applications in electric vehicles, where current flows are greater than in vehicles with conventional drive trains. Ultradur B4300 G6 HR LT is


a hydrolysis resistant black grade offering laser-transpar- ency. Applications include

housings for control units or sensors, which not only have to be hydrolysis-resistant but must be assembled from several individual parts using transmission laser welding techniques. The two new grades join the current Ultradur HR products,


which are commercially available with 30% glass-fibre reinforcement as Ultradur B4330 G6 HR, and with 15% glass-fibre reinforcement as Ultradur B4330 G3 HR. Both new grades retain their tensile strength after 3,000h exposure at 85˚C and 85% RH, says BASF. They also pass the

demanding USCAS 5 cyclical test requirements. l The company has also extended its Ultramid SI (Surface Improved) line of polyamides. Aimed primarily at the furniture industry, the four new grades provide the mechanical strength and ease of processing required for production of complex furniture seating components with the ability to deliver a high quality aesthetic surface finish. The product line now includes Ultramid B3EG4 SI with 20% glass fibre reinforce- ment, Ultramid B3EG6 SI with 30% glass, Ultramid B3EG10 SI with 50% glass and a flame retarded Ultramid B3U40G4 SI version for applications in public spaces such as airport terminals.


The B3EG4 SI grade is being used by German furniture firm Interstuhl to produce the seat back frame for its MOVYis3 office chair. ❙ www.basf.com

Hall 6/B10 Italy’s Radici will present the latest additions to its range of PA compounds for engineering applications, including new heat resistant products and a line of PA6,12 resins. The PA6,12 polymers will


be introduced alongside the company’s existing Radilon D PA6,10 compounds. The materials offer high resistance to automotive fuels and chemicals. l The latest additions to the company’s high heat resistant Radilon HHR product line extend long term performance in hot air by 20˚C to 230˚C. l Radici will also announce some new additions to its long glass fibre reinforced Radistrong compound product line. ❙ www.radicigroup.com
