maureenf@flying-models.com Modeling is for any age!
I am a long-time subscriber to both Model Builder and FLYING MODELS magazines and have thoroughly enjoyed every issue. I am writing this letter with enclosed photos regarding my father-in- law, Keith Moon, who lives in East Aurora, NY.
As a youngster Keith enjoyed building model airplanes. After serving in World War II on a destroyer in the South Pacific, he returned to his hometown in Wisconsin where he assisted his father in the family grocery store for a period of time. Because of the lack of a model
airplane shop nearby, he set up an area of the store where he sold model planes and supplies for many model builders.
Raising a family through the years did not give Keith an opportunity to build many models but he was able to enjoy some control line flying.
Fast forward to three years ago. At that time I encouraged Keith, who was then 90 years old, to once again resume model airplane building. Build he did! Keith, who is now 93, has built seventeen beautifully constructed rubber powered model planes and is enjoying every minute of his renewed hobby. Keith and I also have fun adjusting, tweaking and test flying these model airplanes. Keith’s Lancer and Javelan (pictured below) sit on a table ready for pre-test procedures. It just proves that airplane modeling can be enjoyed at any age!
