Cedar Point Redux


In mid-August I revisited the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad at the famous amuse- ment park in Ohio. The coal fired narrow gauge CP&LE is celebrating its 50th an- niversary this year. While we did note that the railroad’s locomotives run on coal, we failed to mention what keeps the railroaders running. It turns out that superintendent


Randy Catri’s wife, Dee, is one heck of a bak- er and she keeps sending cookies and cakes to the employees. Randy swears this is the reason that there is such low turnover for jobs that are largely seasonal. They keep coming back for the food. The second visit to Cedar Point was part of a trip that included Steam Days at the Lake Shore Railway Museum in North East, Penn., and some other steam surprises. The judges are strongly influenced by im- ages that show creativity. Here’s the fine print — each photographer can enter up to ten photos, but we generally only award one prize per winning entrant. Slides and digital photos can be entered (sorry, no prints), and your name must appear on each slide or CD. Include your address, daytime phone num- ber, e-mail address and caption information inside your package. Slides should be sent in plastic slide pages. Digital photos should be in TIF format (or uncompressed JPEG) and a reference print of each image must accom- pany any CD.


Do not send Center Spread entries with any other correspondence such as news pho- tos or feature material, as we do not open the contest packages until after the dea dline.
