Flyzone’s Newest Micros


The Nieuport outshines the Tiger Moth in scale engine detail, though, as the round, open cowl molding (above left) allows a representation of the Le Rhone engine in dummy cylinder form. The Vickers machine gun is another nice scale touch. Unlike the Tiger Moth, the Nieuport has a full flying rudder (above right). The large surface deflection can be fine-tuned both through transmitter trim buttons and by using the double V-bend in the rudder pushrod that exits the fuselage from a neatly molded slot in the foam. By placing the pushrod in the outer hole of the rudder horn, excessive surface deflection is not a problem. The significant degree


of downthrust set into the motor mount (below left) of the Tiger Moth. Coupled with some right thrust, that much downthrust is typical of the planes in the Flyzone Micro EP series. The planes are well-engineered to compensate for torque and motor thrust forces in flight with no adjustments needed just as they come out of the box. Painted pilot figures (below right) add to the overall scale look of the plane, although they can be omitted by those who don’t want to be bothered by the task of painting small foam figures. These two figures were painted with Testor’s military flat enamel to give their helmets a worn leather look.


The Flyzone Micro EP series employs a molded “well” (above left) in the bottom of the fuselage to hold the flight battery. The “well” of the Nieuport allows the battery and wires to be tucked back into the fuselage. Corresponding strips of “hook and loop” material are attached to the bottom of the battery “well” and the flight battery to hold everything in place. Flight controls on both planes consist of

rudder and elevator—both on the right stick of the Tactic TTX402 transmitter that comes with the RTF versions. Using a different transmitter may require some programming to move the rudder from the left stick to the right. Controls can be adjusted at the transmitter using the trim buttons or mechanically on the plane (above right) by tweaking the double V-bends of the pushrod wires.
