Iron Rattler represents an overhaul of the San Antonio park's wooden coaster formerly known simply as the Rattler, but now with steels rails and a re-profiled track. A similar
transformation was made last year by RMC to the Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Iron Rattler also features new trains by Gerstlauer. Not only do they ride well, they look beautiful. The German manufacturer supplied two 24-seat trains, each 43ft-long (13m) and 4ft- wide (1.2m). Each seat has a monitored lap bar. The ride vehicles traverse a 3,266ft-long (almost 1km), 179ft-tall (55m) layout by Rocky Mountain Construction, reaching a top speed of 70mph (113 kmh). “Six Flags certainly presented us with a challenge,” notes Siegfried Gerstlauer. “The classic Cadillac we designed for the Texas Giant was great, but the Iron Rattler train design was even more complex. Six Flags wanted a menacing snake theme that was intricate and complicated to design, but it turned out fantastic.”
