Crayola Experience JRA brings colour to life
Since 1996 the Crayola Experience has, excuse the pun, “drawn” more than four million visitors to downtown Easton, Pennsylvania. Now JRA (Jack Rouse Associates) has given the 60,000 sq ft (5,575 sq m) facility a colourful overhaul. Opened late May, the new look Crayola Experience is packed with four floors of family fun and 18 individual interactive attractions from
personalised crayon-makers to larger-than-life animated art adventures.
Visitors can create and interact with digital works of art on large projected surfaces, appear in their very own colouring page with some of Crayola’s characters, learn how crayons are made in the Crayon Factory, and create objects with melted wax while taking in the aroma. Guests of all ages can use their colour-mixing skills to create their own barrel marker pen in Marker Mania and fashion their own crayon label in Wrap It Up. If they are hungry from all of that activity, they can recharge at Café Crayola, where they will enjoy Crayola-inspired foods from coloured cupcakes to design-your-own pizzas, while checking out the world’s largest crayon. A contained soft play structure was contributed by Prime Play (as pictured). JRA provided overall planning, design development and project management for all exhibits, interactives and activities, with fabrication
Party in Old Hong Kong!
The Hong Kong Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (HKAAPA) held a fun themed party at Ocean Park recently to welcome five new members into the organisation. Representatives from Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited, PCCW, Shenzhen Longri, Skafos International Limited and Tejix, pictured here with HKAAPA president Paul Pei (in the yellow jumpsuit) were the guests of honour at the gathering on 23 May. Hosted in Ocean Park’s Old Hong Kong street, they got the chance to meet 20 other HKAAPA members from its nine founding companies. Members were presented with an array of street foods inspired by the humble history of Hong Kong, including stuffed triple treasures, fish balls, egg waffles, egg tarts, soy bean milk and Chinese milk tea. “The party was a great networking opportunity for HKAAPA members to share visions to promote the positive image of tourism in Hong Kong,” notes Pei.

Crayola expects to grow the number of annual visitors from 300,000 to nearly half a million as a result of the transformation. “This brand and this business is fundamentally about sparking the creative spirit that we believe exists in every child,” says Crayola CEO Mike Perry. “We believe that creativity can be taught. It certainly should be nurtured. But importantly, we believe that creativity has to be experienced. And that’s what this place is all about.”
