The park’s 4D cinema by Simworx

Doing the ground work

Making the site, a former quarry, suitable for Vialand was not easy. Construction on the park started only last December (the mall was completed much earlier) after significant ground preparation works involving steel and plaster and reinforcement. Contractors were then faced with freezing temperatures and heavy rain over the winter. The grand opening was originally scheduled for April of this year, but given the circumstances the postponed May/June launch and subsequent delay to several of the attractions shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

is complemented by Çilgin Nehir (Crazy River), a 424m-long Rafting ride with 3,350 cubic metres of water. Located between the water rides in Adventure Zone, King Kong by Huss Park Attractions is the third version of the ride in Europe, and looks quite spectacular as the eponymous gorilla shakes his cargo against the backdrop of the city below. However Kong’s growl is much worse than his bite and the adjacent 360, a Star Shape pendulum ride from Zierer, delivers some much more intense thrills. A tamer attraction from the German manufacturer is a Jet Ski ride with crocodile-themed ride vehicles.

Four dark rides Two of Vialand’s four dark ride-style attractions, both with trackless transport by ETF Ride Systems, sit side by side. Zindan (Dungeon) is a slow-moving but pitch black Ghost Train-style attraction with effects by Heimotion, while Safari Tüneli by P&P Projects fuses physical sets and CGI animated scenes with interactive shooting technology by Alterface. Hayal Perdesi (Imagination Curtain), the park’s large 4D cinema by Simworx, features two films that play by an alternate basis, Robin Hood by Red Star

and Pirate Story by nWave, each of which have their own entrance and queue line. Simworx also supplied a simulator.

One of the most ambitious rides in the park promises to be Fatih’in Rüyasi (Conqueror’s Dream), a 4,000 sq m boat ride from Intamin that will bring to life the story of old Istanbul – or Constantinople – through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy with the aid of 117 animatronic characters from Heimotion. Located in the Legend Zone area of the park, work continues on the attraction ahead of an expected August debut. Close by, Adalet Kulesi (Tower of Justice), is a 50m freefall tower of Italian construction housed inside a themed tower reminiscent of ancient Istanbul architecture. Flying high in the adjacent courtyard is Saray Salincagi, a colourful, custom-themed Wave Swinger by Zierer. In the Fun Zone, Minik Kasifler (Little Explorers) is

an It’s a Small World-style scenic boat ride. A package of around 10 smaller kids’ attractions were supplied by the SBF/Visa Group, while just beyond the castle ramparts within the entrance plaza is an 80-seater double-deck carousel by SBF/Visa. Towards the bottom of the park, a large waterfall cascades down from the top. The area beyond this
