In time-honoured fashion, manufacturers were asked to consider a trio of more extended questions to close out the survey. Firstly, companies mused on which type of equipment or technological development will be the most important to the market and why…and what role they may or may not play in this.

networking was cited in multiple answers, as was the much- heralded ‘convergence’ with IT infrastructures. “There is more fighting for protocols now, and this will dictate [the direction of] the business,” predicted one respondent. Several others simply cited “creative R&D” as being the number one factor required to keep the business motoring along.
