❙ US-based TPE manufac- turer Alliance Polymers and Services has expanded its R&D facility with the installation of its first injection moulding machine, a 100 tonne Arburg unit. The company says the machine augments its existing compounding equipment and will allow it to test the moulding characteristics of new formulations.

Engel launches e-Motion all-electric tiebar-less
Austrian machinery maker Engel will launch a tiebar-less all-electric moulding machine at the K fair later this year that it claims will set new levels of precision and energy efficiency. The company will introduce
a 30 tonne model at the show – e-Motion 30 TL – but Engel CEO Peter Neumann said it plans to extend the line to at least 80 tonnes, and possibly 130 tonnes in the longer term. Engel currently offers its
tiebar-less technology in the hydraulic Victory line and hybrid e-Victory machines, both of which use a hydraulic clamping system. It has sold more than 60,000 machines of this type since its introduction. The e-Motion TL uses a
completely new clamping system comprised of an encapsulated three-point toggle with a servo-driven crank. The new chassis incorporates a flex compensa-
tor system in the fixed platen to eliminate the need for the ‘double frame’ arrangement of the Victory tiebar-less models. This cuts weight and improves platen parallelism, according to Engel chief technology officer Stefen Engleder. The new machine frame design also saves space – the e-Motion 30TL model is just three metres long.
The e-Motion 30TL will be equipped with the company’s in line unit 50 injection system, which delivers injection speed
fo up to 800 mm/s. Engleder says the new machine design has been in extended use with a customer producing optical components for several months, and is reported to deliver levels of platen alignment and mould wear better than current tiebar machines. The new machine will also be equipped with Engel’s new CC300 control system, which uses a 21-inch full HD touch screen panel. ❙

officer Gerhold Fockenhagen takes on the new role of chief technology officer; Weener CEO Johann Meinders steps down from a management role but will continue to work with the group as a consultant. Plasticum manufactures
largely standard caps and closures at four plants in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK for the personal care, food and home care markets; Weener operates from 25 locations across three continents and is more focused on custom packaging. In a statement, Zeevat said
the joint company sees considerable future growth potential in Asia and South America. ❙
