MIAMI
Anyway, I digress of course I am talking about South Beach.
I like to breakfast at the News Café, lunch at the Café at Books & Books, dine at Quattro or Balans and then see where the night takes me… I’m also a self-confessed art deco fan. I’m at home in the Martinez in Cannes, the art deco inspired Peninsula Shanghai and a David Collins designed bar or restaurant of 1930s provenance. So when in Miami… it has to be Ocean Drive and when it’s Ocean Drive it has to be The Betsy.
The new kid on the block was a warmly, (no – hotly!) welcomed and a much needed addition to Ocean Drive. Not only is it perfectly located but it offers serene tropical interiors and a roof top wellness garden with full menu of spa
treatments and yoga topped off with Atlantic views. Delve beyond the surface and you will find a cultural affair: original art adorns walls and stairways, guest rooms boast individual literature collections and a Writer’s Room hosts visiting artists. Undoubtedly a sophisticated queen amongst the madding crowd.
But it’s not all Zen. The hotels’ underground speakeasy B Bar offers the freedom to enjoy innovative mixology and a mix of DJs to match. In the lobby, the restaurant BLT Steak brings a modern American steakhouse to Miami and commendable wine list with it too.
Whilst I wouldn’t be so uncool to brand The Betsy as cool, but I would certainly say it’s hot.
