The Dambusters App for that!
The Dambusters App allows you to fly Operation Chastise, the famous mission from May 16-17, 1943 in which 617 Squadron used Barnes Wallis’ Bouncing Bomb to breach the mighty Ruhr dams. The first part of your mission is to fly the 27.5-ton, 102-foot span Lancaster at ridiculously low heights through occupied territory, under, over or around bridges, cables, barrage balloons and various obstacles while avoiding searchlights and the flak. Then, breach the massive Mohne, Eder and Sorpe dams and return home.
As in the real mission, you have 19 Lancaster bombers, each with a single 4-ton Bouncing Bomb which you must drop at precisely 420 yards from the dam while flying at 230 mph at 60 feet above the water, in the dark, while being shot at.
This realistic 3D physics
simulation (currently only on iOS, runs exclusively on iPhone4 and above and iPad2 and above) is the first to be licensed by the RAF and also features the Central Band of the RAF playing the famous Dambusters March, written by Eric Coates. The Dambusters App was created by Hyperspace, a small indie developer in Cardiff, UK and is available through iTunes.
