Shapingup forSummer

From cellulite creams and slimming lotions, to massage and body wrapping, by offering a variety of products and hands-on treatments you can help your clients inch their way to a beach-ready body this Summer.

After what seems like never-ending months of battling with bitter, wet and snowy weather, the lighter and brighter days now thankfully appear to be upon us. With Christmas food festivities and Easter chocolate temptations crossed off the calendar, it’s now time to shake off the bad habits of Winter and shape-up for Summer.

During the colder seasons, it’s easy to keep areas that we aren’t particularly fond of discreetly hidden through a myriad of cosy jumpers and faithful cardigans, but the soaring temperatures of exotic locations unfortunately means having to bare all.

Looking and feeling good are essential for projecting that all important beach body confidence. So as the holiday countdown begins, so do the calorie counting and exercise regimes. Throughout the next few months many clients, both existing and new, will be visiting salons looking for ways in which to shake up their usual beauty routines in preparation for hotter climes. In particular, seeking treatments and products to help tighten, tone and appear trimmer.

Bumps and lumps

Having to dust off our swimsuits leaves many of us just wincing at the

thought, as it means our body issues and problem areas will be exposed for all to see. One of the most common concerns noted is the appearance of cellulite, or ‘orange peel’.

Most women can empathise with the plight of cellulite, as the problem is more common in females than males. Dimpled and puckered skin in areas such as the hips, thighs, abdomen, buttocks and arms, can affect a wide spectrum of women. Young or old, petite or plump, cellulite takes no prisoners. Yet, there are ways in which you can at least help diminish the appearance of cellulite. For example, implementing exercise into your daily routine, employing a healthy diet and keeping properly hydrated, are just some of the tactics that can be employed.

Although they may not banish the dastardly ‘orange peel’ altogether, they are great for overall well-being and may subside its appearance in the affected areas. There are also a number of beauty products and hands-on treatments, which when incorporated with a healthy lifestyle, may be of assistance to tackle the problem.

Anti-cellulite creams can be used during salon treatments and also sold to clients for use at home. They work by using a combination of cellulite busting ingredients such as Caffeine; which can help to stimulate blood flow, creating a skin smoother texture; and Retin A, which motivates skin rejuvenation.

In terms of professional treatments, massage in particular is great for tackling fluid retention and helping to stimulate the body’s circulation. Therapists can employ techniques such as lymphatic draining in the

fight against cellulite. Working to improve lymphatic circulation, the massage increases lymph flow helping rid the body of excess fluid and toxins, making it an ideal treatment for sufferers.

Tone up

If your clients wish to lose a few inches in the quest to looking trim and toned, then they can breathe a collective sigh of relief to know that this doesn’t have to result in major or invasive procedures. Many hands-on treatments can not only be effective in terms of body toning but also provide an enjoyable and relaxing experience for clients in the run-up to their sun departure.

Body wrapping is just one of the effective slimming treatments that you can offer clients. This not only helps to detoxify, tighten and smooth the skin but can also be a refreshing complementary addition to their pre- holiday body regime.

This also provides a great opportunity for salons and therapists to stock-up on body toning and slimming retail products. By offering these alongside treatments, clients can maintain results between appointments whilst at the same time increasing your revenue with add-on sales.

So let’s take a look at some of the treatments and products you can add to your salon, helping your clients’ body confidence to shine through this Summer…
