EVOLUTION MEETS REVOLUTION
This issue focuses on security, test and measure. Although often described as Cinderella technologies, with broadcasting moving from traditional linear and analogue platforms onto hybrid distribution, all three areas are critical.
Whether it’s protecting revenue streams or ensuring consistent consumer experience; the development of innovative new systems are helping content owners, broadcasters and service providers meet an increasingly demanding customer base.
Will Garside, Editor of IBE
Alongside our features, regular readers might recognise that both the IBE magazine and website have undergone a redesign with further changes based on feedback taken during NAB. These changes are not just cosmetic, with the new look and content refl ecting a subtle shift in how our publication intends to cover the broadcast industry.
Like any publisher, our focus needs to align across our different activities and the changing industry landscape. As a partner within the Connected Media World at NAB Show and Connected World at IBC, it’s clear that much of our audiences’ interest resides within the intersection between traditional
broadcasting and the internet. This is a space where connected devices and media, apps, games and other new platforms encourage interaction in exciting new ways. We see a future where the traditional advertising led model is subtly altered and monetisation is based on a wider range of sources.
Connected World at IBC will this year welcome more than 100 exhibitors including Intel, Huawei, Xstream, Gracenote and Signiant. These vendors, and others such as Dune HD, ACCESS, Amino Communications and Vidmind, stand at the vanguard of the new connected world where broadcast revolves around IP-based technologies, and open standards are changing the technical and economic direction of our industry.
While IBE will always cover the breaking stories across the wider broadcast industry, we will place more focus on retaining our position as the ‘industry standard’
for news, features, opinions and events within this emerging connected world. This strategy allows us to fully engage on areas that align with our exhibitors and readership as the industry heads in an exciting new direction.
This positions you, our readers, in a crucial role to provide valuable feedback on our magazine, websites, ecasts, events and other activities. We welcome all suggestions and stories on emerging technologies to help us match the needs of this increasingly diverse and international audience. We at IBE, as with the rest of our industry, must evolve to remain relevant and valued.
