The American Shorthorn Association (ASA) has released the updated expected progeny differences (EPDs) for spring 2013, which include traits


for calving ease, performance and carcass. EPDs may be viewed at short- horn.org along with updated breed averages and percentile rankings. The 2013 Shorthorn Sire Summary is available online. It contains information on 537 active sires and 385 young sires. A percentile breakdown chart, EPD glossary and a breakdown of contemporary groups supplement the data. The Shorthorn homozygous polled bulls list is also featured. Call the ASA offi ce, 402-393-7200, for a print copy of the sire summary. Jeralyn Stephens is the new communications coordinator at Beefmas- ter Breeders United (BBU). Stephens will work in media and website


promotion and advertising development. She will manage the bi-monthly newsletter Beefmaster E-News and electronic media including social media platforms, write news releases and assist with video development. She will serve as the liaison between BBU and the agriculture trade media. Stephens is from McKinney and graduated from Tarleton State University in Stephen- ville. The Beefmaster Educational Endowment Foundation (BEEF) board has fi nalized funding for a research project at the University of Missouri for


genomic sequencing of Beefmaster bulls. The $27,500 research study was recommended for funding to the board by the BBU Long Range Planning Committee and will be awarded to the University of Missouri’s Dr. Jerry Taylor, Curators’ Professor of Genetics and Animal Sciences Wurdack Chair of Animal Genomics The International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) elected members to serve 4-year terms as directors. The new directors are Chuck Sword,


Hollonville, Ga.; Mike Vorel, Luther, Okla.; Russ Williamson, Tyler; Danny Farris, Tuscola; and Larry Parker, San Simon, Ariz. The Texas Hereford Association, based in Fort Worth, received the Bill King Award at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo during the


annual Livestock Appreciation Luncheon. The award, presented by the Fort Worth Farm and Ranch Club, recognizes individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to agriculture. Jay Wright, THA president and W4 Ranch manager, accepted the award on behalf of the association.
